One Israeli politician's point of view

I agree with you completely, Red Robin.

Also, just to be completely open and honest, I should add that even though I find #2 to be pretty much of a snob, I also find her to be a very objective and reasoned thinker.

While I'm pretty certain that she and I could never stand to be in the same building together, I always try to read her point of view and give value to her opinions...particulary on Middle East issues.
I don't think she's a snob. I think most of those easterners and elitist have an inferiority complex. When you shake hands with them, they can't look you in the eye. I guess it comes from being too close to so many people. I don't know. I have never met one that was confident though. They act like snobs as a cover up.

One other thing about easteners , once you make a friend out of them , they are as loyal as a lap dog. Most of them who move here are amazed someone would let them pay after they get the merchandise whether it's a bull or hay or a retail product . They just aren't familiar with the small country town way of doing business. They want contracts for everything and trust no one. Again I think it's from being around too many people . It seems here we mostly judge a man by his character. He's honest and hard working or not. For example I know of a recent 250,000 dollar realestate trade where one party didn't stick to their end of the bargain. It didn't take long for some good small town pressure to change his way of thinking. It was all verbal but it worked alot better than a contract in the end.
I think east and north east lots of people are judged by their assets which are flaunted. Here you would be amazed who hold all the assets when you run into them in town. The very wealthiest are very common. Sam Walton for example drove an old wore out truck around. It's kind of the way things are here but it's changing. Reader I was generalizing but I am not trying to cast you in a bad light. I think it's just common among people in your area. Don't take offense.

I like having the input of R2 because I think we get an honest somewhat liberal viewpoint (I know, honest & liberal sets off the oxymoron alert). I can learn from honest disagreement. The guys that cut and paste Al Frankin lies offer me nothing.

Additionally, R2 has the perspective of someone that has seen and done an incredible variety of experiances for one lifetime. we should be grateful for the R2 perspective except for when R2 wants to intervene against the public stoning of Dis.

My wife's best freind from the time she was 5 or so lives in Amsterdam now after a few years lliving in Hamburg I think.. She just got married to a British guy who is also working in Amsterdam and used to work for Motorola outside of Chicago.. He always says the same thing when people talk about poloriized politics.. She tends to agree with you too and points out that most people in national politics really have to play to the center in order to get elected these days.

That being said I would argue that it is gettting uglier in this country and I don't think either side is entirely responsible for it.. As far as you chiding people... Well, I think there is probably something in the cadence of your typing that makes some feel that way, never have I seen what you write as chidding but I tend to avoid this area like the plague as my blood pressure usualy doesn't need the agrivation.. Gues the old Scottsman in my comes out or something, lol.

I admit to coming off like a snob...
Don't worry about it. I'll try to get better at overlooking it and just accepting the premise that you're really not a snob. It probably just comes across that way to me - I'm sure nobody else notices.

I can fully understand your plight, though. I've been told more than once that I'm an asshole. I can assure you that nothing could be further from the truth. :liar:

I agree with your views on #2, Brad. We don't ALWAYS need to silence the opposition.

However, they DO need to learn to shut up when told.

I forgive you your being an ***hole so you'll just have to forgive me being a snob. Seriously, the number of people who perceive me as a snob is limited to the same people over and over and this may be the same for those who perceive you to be an ... Perhaps some people are overly sensitive
Thanks, and you're forgiven, as well. Now I'm sure we can both get along with our days much better without all of that added worry and stress.
