Only a billion...

The next time you hear a politician use the word "billion" in a casual
manner, think about whether you want the "politicians" spending your tax
money.

A billion is a difficult number to comprehend, but one advertising agency
did a good job of putting that figure into some perspective in one of its
releases.

a.. A billion seconds ago it was 1959.

b.. A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.

c.. A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age.

d.. A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.

e.. A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes, at the rate
our government is spending it.

While this thought is still fresh in our brain, let's take a look at New
Orleans - It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division
............
Louisiana Senator, Mary Landrieu (D), is presently asking the Congress
for $250 BILLION to rebuild New Orleans.

Interesting number, what does it mean?

Well, if you are one of 484,674 residents of New Orleans (every man,
woman, child), you each get $516, 528.

Or, if you have one of the 188,251 homes in New Orleans, your home gets
$1, 329,787.

Or, if you are a family of four, your family gets $2,066,012.

Washington, D.C. !!!...........................Are all your calculators
broken????

Maybe everyone should just flood their houses, then we can all be on the
"big easy" street for the rest of our lives, and forget about working,
and paying taxes and all that useless stuff!

Good post Macon! That puts a perspective on things for sure.

There have been 17 indictments in Montgomery alone against people who defrauded FEMA during the money handouts. NONE were from Louisiana and most had never been there. One woman got 3 installments of $2000.00+.

If that has happened here just think about how many of the others who haven't been caught yet.

This is madness!

That does not mean we should spent a million or two on each homeowner in New Orleans...

That request is dead in the water. But breaking that figure down by homeowner is dishonest. Much of the money was to go to rebuilding levees, deepening the boat channels, new locks, etc., plus the infastructure of the city, schools, etc, that everyone uses. I wonder why there's no mention that LA Republican Senator David Vitter was a co-author of that request?

Maybe it would be cheaper to just close down N.O....Have everyone just move to a safer area- somewhere that isn't 10 feet below sea level...I don't know why the rest of the country has to pay for them to rebuild in a swamp.......

If its so great a place or so economically viable that they want to live there--they can pay for it.......

If you want to keep that major port open, the people who work there have to live somewhere. Where do you suggest? Dallas?

If its such a major port and so economically viable- they should be able to afford it themselves....What did they do before FEMA was around with the handouts?

Oh- thats right- According to Liberals, there were no hurricanes prior to GW

There is a much bigger issue about New Orleans going on behind the scenes.

It's between the EPA, Corp of Engineers, Fema, State of Louisiana, and City of New Orleans. We will not likely hear about it until the lawyers get involved a few years from now.

"Toxins" and what to do about them.

I read an article the other day where most of the professionals ( doctors, lawyers, engineers, etc.) now don't want to move back to N.O. and probably aren't if they have a choice........

Gotcha. Just wondering why you said "if they have a choice". Real estate prices have gone through the roof down there with speculators betting on the come. The city is involved in a lot of the sales to entice wealthier people to invest. More taxes I guess?????????
