Well fortunately, the worst of it is about an hour south of us. My nephew was moving snow (trucks and loaders) in London and finally quit after he worked 47 hrs. straight! Last year there was no work for him . . .

Lucan, just north of London, got a reported 2 meters - over 6 feet!

I am still feeding bales in the field but was pushing snow with the front axle of the tractor yesterday. I'm about to head out now to feed again.

The good news?

Only 4 months of this left . . .

AAAAAaaaaaahhhhh . . .

Northern that was nasty
I think it was a compliment. He believes the Leafs are such a force that they control the weather. :)

Well I never thought of that! As a matter of fact, there are some who believe that they also have a direct correlation to temperatures in some unusual places, believing that their winning a Cup is directly related to ice in Hades . . .

Burnt, if you had bought that new climate controled tractor you wouldn't even be noticing the weather. :D

Hope it gives you some respite so you can make room in the yard for the next one.

About December all Leafs just wither up and die lol. Imagine how sad the Flames would be without the Alberta boys Iginla, Glencross, Bourque-Regehr is a Saskie too. This western roadtrip should be some good hockey.

My great niece is stranded in Kitchener trying to get home to Petrolia for the holidays. Might be another day yet. They're thinking about getting her on the train tonight, but still leaves her needing to get a ride home from the train station.

I just got back from running a delivery to Stratford, normally about a 45 -50 min. trip to the east of us and it was pretty good out that way. Even sunny at times. Took a bit longer today.

But on the way home, the further we came toward Lake Huron, the whiter it got. The worst is meeting those dang salt haulers coming from the mine at Goderich - they just have one speed - flat out. The blizzard they kick up behind themselves is nothing short of panic-inducing.

Visibility drops to zero for about 10 - 15 seconds and a lot can go wrong in that time. Seems like forever. And that's when people die on the roads this time of year.

There are already some pretty high snowbanks along the north-south running roads and it just started a week and 1/2 ago.

Weather Network says the military helicopters have rescued 240 stranded motorists off the 402 so far. Still have about 60 or more to rescue.

Oh that's not a new concept. One of your cousins over near Dungannon has a few tractors and blades or loaders working in the city all winter for quite a few years already.

There are quite a few more who lease a new tractor for the winter and return it in the spring after their snow removal contracts run out. Those tractors can then be bought for a pretty reasonable price at very low hours, depending the kind of winter we had.

This season - maybe a few more hours, the way things are shaping up . . .

Nice story from the Toronto Star. These snowbound travelers got an impromptu tour of an egg farm. Sometimes, having our "normal" disrupted can give us a different, pleasant and necessary change in perspective, and we relearn the meaning of community.

We have hosted more than 1 wayward traveller here. One storm my neighbor a I were checking the ditch cars the next day and found a guy that COed himself and didn't make it. He was 200 feet from a heated shop and pig barn but never saw it.

When I used to winter calve I left the barn lights on all the time. One morning about 4'00 A:M I went out in a blizzard and found a fresh calf. I packed him into the barn and found my incubator with the heat light on. I thought maybe a neighbor had stuck a calf in it. I had to unplug the light to get the door open-when I went to open the door a guys head popped out. I kind of slammed it on his head lol. Here two Newfies were travelling from Edmonton and had hit the ditch-they found my barn and were cuddled together in this 4x4 calf box. I took them in-fed them up and got them going again. I often wonder what would of happened if they'd missed the barn or else burnt it down-they were smoking in there. When the highway cut through our yard we had lots of 'visitors'.
