Well, well. It turns out that John McCain was NOT the person trying to save Fannie & Freddie back in 2005. It was another popular Republican Senator.

PALIN: "Two years ago, remember, it was John McCain who pushed so hard with the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac reform measures. He sounded that warning bell."

THE FACTS: Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel of Nebraska led an effort in 2005 to tighten regulation on the mortgage underwriters — McCain joined as a co-sponsor a year later. The legislation was never taken up by the full Senate, then under Republican control.

It has always been common knowledge that he was a CO SPONSOR of the bill. No one ever said he wrote it and was the only one pushing it. I think CO SPONSORING a bill that would have kept us out of this mess is trying to do something about it! How many bills did Obama CO SPONSOR to regulate Fannie and Freddie? O wait all them donations from them would not allow him to do so, he would have a conflict of our interest and his pocket book!

You sure are grasping out in stupid land to think you have some point on this!

I don't remember posts on this board saying McCain was a CO SPONSOR of the Fannie&Freddie regulation bill. Every one I've read has him as the lone "maverick", taking on the rest of the Senate to try and protect the American people. Now it turns out that Chuck Hagel was working on this a year before McCain finally signed on as a co-sponsor. Quite a bit of difference here, as far as I'm concerned. And, of course, it was the Republican Senate leadership that didn't bring it to the full Senate for consideration. What a shocker.

All anyone has said is McCain tried to do something and Obama did not. No one ever said he wrote the bill but Cosponsoring it is basically the same. You are trying to split hairs on something that is common knowledge! Sorry that you are just now catching up to a conversation we had weeks ago! Guess we can call you the Rain Man!

And since you do not know much about this situation and are just now catching up to everyone. Go research it a little more and you will see the Democrats blocked the bill! You know that can be done even if you do not have the majority! Sssshhhhh having to explain things that should have been learned back in H.S. to you!

Oh, I know that I shouldn't be surprised that you right wingnuts tried to give credit to McCain for something that Hagel did. Guess I just keep hoping for better things from you. :(

Again, Republicans controlled the Senate. They didn't even bring it to the floor. I'd think any sensible person would have a hard time blaming the Dems for that. And after pretending that McCain was the one responsible for the bill and getting caught in a lie, who would believe what you say about anything?

Actually it does...most of the so called bills Obama has authored are really only amendments to other bills, and many have never garnered any co-sponsors. That means nobody agreed with him and knew the bill didn't have a chance. The few that were referred to committee were always co-sponsored by the same people and always died right there. And those died in committee.... ALL with a democrat controlled congress. Check the congressional record. It's in black and white.
