Open Letter to Ben Nelson

I am furious at our Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson for caving in and selling us out for this Healthcare Bill. The instant I heard about his announcement of support, I sent him the following letter:

12-19-2009

Dear Senator Nelson,

I have repeatedly written to you and called your office, pleading that you vote no on the Health Care Bill. I have urged you to kill this bill and start over by addressing issues that will actually accomplish what this bill will not.

I have just learned that you have announced your support for it. This news sickens me and it is a dark day in Nebraska and United States history.

The passage of this legislation is not the end of it. It will be re-worked over the next many years and the provisions that were taken out, that you claim as improvments, will be back in force. Provisions such as subsidised abortions and the government option will be put back in eventually. This is an atrosity and you were duped.

How can you in good faith vote for a 2000 page monstrosity that was created behind closed doors and no one fully understands? You should be ashamed of yourself.

You sir, a conservative Democrat have shown your true colors by siding with the socialist side of your party. This was a time for you to oppose them and vote for what is right for your State and Country. Nebraska, a largely conservative State does not support you in this decision. The majority of the American public does not support you in this decision.

You have sold us out.

Today I pledge, that I will work as hard as possible for your defeat in the next election, while working for the repeal of this bill.

Sincerely but sadly,

**** ********

When I saw Jiggsy late yesterday afternoon he was telling me about Bennie's call in radio show on KRVN. I was listening to Hannity (guest host) and didn't even know it was happening. Sounds like folks were all spun up about Bennie's vote, which they should have been.

That was pretty much the death knell for Nelson's career as a US Senator. Most likely, he doesn't care....Bennie is close to 70 and, since he got his, is not horribly concerned about things anymore.....content to just coast until 2012.

(COUGH) I voted for Bennie the last go-round. After meeting Pete Ricketts, (whom I didn't like), I walked away convinced that Pete was trying to buy the Senate seat, and that didn't sit particularly well at the time.

Now, no matter who is running or whether I love or hate them, I am voting straight ticket...whoever has an R behind their name gets the vote, no more of this "voting for the man" BS.

Lesson learned. Thanks, Ben!
