I hope you haven't made up your mind yet H! Looks like its time for all of us to pimp our bulls.
I too have Select Sires service my AI tank. I just have a hard time using their hereford bulls at this time. Last time the rep was here I had a chat about the strenghts and weaknesses of the various pedigrees of Hereford cattle.
Something to keep in mind too is that the heterosis of the 2 crosses is a great thing but many people forget to realize that it will add mature weight to the female. If your straight breeding angus using a similar size hereford will give you more mature weight.
Here are a few bulls that I have semen on.
0232. ten years old and still perfectly sound. Just like his daddy. They set the foundation of the cowherd on this place. Hard to find a cow in the herd that doesn't go back to him or his sire and sometimes both. He has been used on heifers very successfully.
SMN 0527 Liberty 0709 high gain, proven highly feed efficient. Was used as reference sire in National Reference Sire test and by Circle A in their hereford and angus sire testing this past fall.
Another after he had run with over 40 heifers and had bred 28 of them over the previous 45 days. More pictures on the website.
SMN 0507 Bennett 0956 pictured at weaning. Home raised bull out of a 1250 lb cow. She alway has a big calf and breeds back first cycle. I dont have any current pictures. Great epd profile too. He also was used by Circle A this past fall. I expect his calves to gain good and the daughters to reduce mature cow size without giving up performance.
Another of 0956 at weaning
My website is www.SimonHerefords.com. Clicking on the pictures of the herdbulls will get you additional pictures and pedigree and performance data on the bulls. It is in the process of being updated with the 2011 calf crops data and bull listing.
There is lots and lots of pictures in my photo album too.
Thanks and happy hunting
Brian
