Opinions wanted from Hereford outfits

Help Support Ranchers.net:

As usual I am late to the conversation.

The biggest drawback of my outfit is my best bulls have come from Ned jr! I have(and so does Ken) semen on 847. If he don't help your outfit then I want to shake your hand because you must have one HELLACOIUS set of cows.

PM either of us for more info.

Here's a link to our sires page on our website. http://colemanherefords.com/Sires.html

I looked at your great website too...i love that you have pap tested bulls---there aren't many hereford outfits that pap test up here in WY. We've been talking about gettting a few hereford bulls next year and I really like the looks of yours. Do you sell yearlings or 2 year olds and do you sell any polled?

Thanks! All of our bulls are horned and we sell mostly yearlings. The demand for good pap tested Hereford bulls is enough lately that it's getting hard to keep them until they're two year olds. I'm sure excited about the set of calves we have on the ground this year. I need to post some pictures one of these days.

YES YOU DO!!!! :D

I hope you haven't made up your mind yet H! Looks like its time for all of us to pimp our bulls. :D

I too have Select Sires service my AI tank. I just have a hard time using their hereford bulls at this time. Last time the rep was here I had a chat about the strenghts and weaknesses of the various pedigrees of Hereford cattle.

Something to keep in mind too is that the heterosis of the 2 crosses is a great thing but many people forget to realize that it will add mature weight to the female. If your straight breeding angus using a similar size hereford will give you more mature weight.

Here are a few bulls that I have semen on.

0232. ten years old and still perfectly sound. Just like his daddy. They set the foundation of the cowherd on this place. Hard to find a cow in the herd that doesn't go back to him or his sire and sometimes both. He has been used on heifers very successfully.

SMN 0527 Liberty 0709 high gain, proven highly feed efficient. Was used as reference sire in National Reference Sire test and by Circle A in their hereford and angus sire testing this past fall.

Another after he had run with over 40 heifers and had bred 28 of them over the previous 45 days. More pictures on the website.

SMN 0507 Bennett 0956 pictured at weaning. Home raised bull out of a 1250 lb cow. She alway has a big calf and breeds back first cycle. I dont have any current pictures. Great epd profile too. He also was used by Circle A this past fall. I expect his calves to gain good and the daughters to reduce mature cow size without giving up performance.

Another of 0956 at weaning

My website is www.SimonHerefords.com. Clicking on the pictures of the herdbulls will get you additional pictures and pedigree and performance data on the bulls. It is in the process of being updated with the 2011 calf crops data and bull listing.

There is lots and lots of pictures in my photo album too.

Thanks and happy hunting

Brian

SMN, I've made it quite plain a time or two that I'm not a big fan of Polled herefords but I DO like your cattle. :D

I also like the fact that you use your own production as herdsires. That in itself tells me more about a breeder and their herd than any other factor.

You would still have to do a hard sell to get me to use one though.

Just catching up right now.

Here is one of the bulls we got from Ace heading out to get to work.

Ya'll are AWESOME!!! I have looked at a bunch of different websites and researched EPDS til my eyes hurt. There are some really, really good cattle out there and some that lack a bit too. All the folks who have answered my query here on Ranchers have earned my respect and appreciation. You folks have some nice outfits and raise some great stock. Hope ya don't mind me saving your website address in my favotites. I am excited to breed of few cows to a good Hereford bull and will cross my fingers for some heifers next spring. The only trouble i have now is i may need to buy another semen tank as mine won't hold all the good bulls i found!  Thanks for your help. I will be in touch! :D

I knew once I asked if you would consider a horned bull I would get the ball rolling. For an easy calving bull that works consider AGA 22B Brigadier 97J: http://ulrichherefords.com/97j.htm. He won't put size in his cows but they are good uddered and useful.
