Looks to me like many cattle producers have much more faith in Obamas boys- than they did in the Packer bought out Bushites....

Yes, especially the ones that are pushing NAIS...........

The evidence is pretty clear:

If it's okay with Obama, it's okay with Oldtimer.

Actually- I really don't know that much about the bill...I have heard little about it- and still haven't read an unbiased description of what it does....

I understand it replaces the 30 year old Clean Waters Act-- which after 30 years the courts hadn't figured out what it says/does  ...Right after I retired I was appointed to a Water Commisioner position where I served for a couple of years-- and about all I found out about all the laws, rules, regs, about streams, rivers, water rights, etc.- is that they are all screwed up- with terrible records and data base- overlapping court rulings- and with numerous conflicts between state, federal, and tribal law...

From all the articles I have read from all the Sportsmens groups, bunny huggers, conservation groups, and enviromentalists- that are supporting it- I probably oppose it...But just don't know that much about it..

my dad works in the NRCS office, and he said the next farm bill will be totally environmentaly driven, with water quality and conservation as the key.

As far as jigs comment- I totally agree....My NRCS lady told me several years ago this was the direction they were going....Much of it is driven by all the Free Trade Agreements and the WTO rulings against subsidies- so everything (payments) will start taking the form of water improvement and conservation payments....That and the fact that agriculture producers (which never have been able to get organized in any way) are like a pimple on the butt of an elephant in comparison to the power of the sportsmen and greenies- and they're objecting to their taxpayer money going to any type of subsidies- even tho they don't realize that is what has kept their food so cheap...

NRCS has always been all about conservation. After all, look what their middle name is :) NATURAL RESOURCES CONSERVATION SERVICE, whose predecessor was the SOIL CONSERVATION SERVICE. They have already been pumping hundreds of thousands of conservation dollars out through the EQIP program over the last several years.

Yep- I can remember when ranchers used to brag they got no government subsidies- and complain about the farmers "mailbox roll" in the bill of their caps....Now I love to look at EIG site- and the thousands of $ of "conservation" money some of these guys get- and harass them about the "mailbox curl" they have in the brim of their hats

I wish they'd do away with all of it- whatever they call them....

the new program Conservation Security Program tells you how many acres of grass you need, what chemicals to apply, out laws atrazine, ZERO tillage, even a rolling stalk chopper disturbs the ground too much. three levels to qualify, and the top level pays big dollars.

I looked at it, but I winter my cows on a creek bank. if I joined up, they would tell me how and where to run my cows. granted I take 80% of the vegitation off that creek in the fall, but it is junk grass and weeds, saturated with trees...I am trying to thin the trees and knock back the weeds. the program would have me abandon the 40 acres for 4 years to re establish nature...which in that chunk it thorny locus and poison hemlock! but they say it is the way to go!
