Undercover child sex sting in Glendive nets two arrests
GLENDIVE - Two men have been charged in Dawson County with attempting to have sex with a child.
According to a Montana Department of Justice press release, Steven Cory Unger, 25, and John Allyn Parker, 37, were charged Tuesday with one count of sexual abuse of children.
Authorities said the men were arrested Friday after responding to online prostitution advertisements placed on Craigslist and Backpage.com by state agents. When they initially responded to the ads, the press release states, the suspects were notified that the females would be 13 and 15 years old.
Unger is from the Glasgow area, and Parker travelled from Watford City, North Dakota.
Several agencies were involved in the undercover operation, including the Dawson County Sheriff's Office, the Glendive Police Department, the Billings Police Department, and the Flathead and Blaine county sheriff's offices. Also participating were the Montana Internet Crimes against Children task force, the Montana Gambling Control Division, North Dakota's Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the FBI, and the Department of Homeland Security also assisted.
"This operation is part of our ongoing efforts to find and prosecute the predators who prey upon Montana's children," Attorney General Fox said. "It also testifies to the great results we can achieve when local, state, and federal law enforcement partners work together for a common goal."
