Well Caleb (our nephew) is off to Kuwait today. For those of you who don't know...he is in the Army Reserves. He has been at Fort McCoy in Wis. since July. He will be in Kuwait for a week or so then in Iraq for the rest of his tour.

He is such a good kid, he is Mike's sister's son, and grew up in town. When he was a freshman in highschool he started working for us in the summers. We're extremely close to him, and almost more of parents to him than his own are :? He hasn't had the best upbringing but in spite of it (or maybe because of it) it a great, christian young man.

He had a three day leave last week and came home. We had a send off party for him here with the neighbors. So here are some pictures of him and the party.

His email address is [email protected] if anyone wants to write to him. He won't have mailing address until he is in Iraq.

Here he is at the party

What an engaging smile. Sure glad he had you folks and you had him.
(It works both ways, we've found, with the young people we have
taken in. Our lives have been so enriched.)

God Bless him. God bless all the soldiers.

Thanks for his e-mail, I'll send one off in a day or two.

Tell him thank you for his service and I will put him on my prayer chain, not that he will need it....... He's on the winning side, Christ's side......

Great pictures Nicky. I bet you sure are proud of him. He has all my respect to be willing to fight for our great country. It is a worthwhile cause, and he is a good man to do it. I am sure you and Mike has a great influence on him.

I will try and email him soon.

Thanks everyone. He called last night from Maine (hadn't gotten far) as they were refueling. Quite a trip for a boy who hadn't been on a plane til he went to boot camp! SW said he probably will only be in Kuwait for a couple days if the Army is like the Marine so will see.

I told Caleb to check this out so he could see how supportive everyone is. Not that he will have alot of spare time :?

Looking at that first picture, with him in a t-shirt and ball cap, ought to tell you all you need to know about our soldiers. I say our without hesitation, Canadian or American, they're doing the same work for us. Strong arm, big heart. What more can be said about what him and so many others are doing, will do, and have done? I hope he brings that smile home to all of you Nicky.

Take care.

We wish Caleb well. He looks like a fine young man to represent our country.

One of our church members was talking about their son who is in Iraq- actually just returned to Iraq after getting kidney disease so I mention this for Caleb. Ap[arently kidney disease is very common amongst our soldiers due to dehydration from the heat, high mineral content of the water and some other factors. In this Army Infantry soldier's case, everyone got a respiratory infection and felt so badly, then he got a sore throat on top of it but decided to tough it out and not go to Medical. He thought it probably would just go away. It turned out to be a strep infection that moved to his kidneys. Shipped him back to Bethesda for awhile to recuperate which he did. Not all are so fortunate.

So we hope Caleb stays hydrated and reports to medical if he isn't well.
Now I'll step down from my nursemaid-soapbox!
