Our birth defect for the year.

We are right at 2/3s done with calving and we had our first calf with birth defects this year. Normal looking calf, but she has an extra point on one of her hoofs on each front leg. The back of the hoof is fused, so it looks like a fairly normal, although bigger, foot from the back.

The cow is an eight year old that has an obnoxious streak a mile wide. Other than that we have never had any problems with her as far as calving problems. It must be a genetic mutation, but it sure does look weird.

My first attempt at posting pictures, I hope this works.

As a professional hoof trimmer I found this very interesting. I hope you keep us posted as to how she develops and if she has any problems as she matures.

The old fella that helps us out at times asked if you could raise a bunch just like that. With those web feet a cow should walk in these swamps a lot easier. :D

I showed one of our friends the pictures and he thought that it looked like the bighorn sheep in the area might have had something to do with it

The little girl acts like she is going to be fine. She is just destined for our own freezer.
