and to LB,what if home is dirty, food is spioled, you work hard but watch the flies land on everything you own. What if police walk into your home and trash it just to get you to tow their line....to watch your 4 yearold son look pregant cause he cant get proper food.....say out your window is the view of grade five students picking through the dump to find their lunch...and the just over the fence are green gardens and shots to fight of desaeses that cripple your child.....the only thing you have to offer is the sweat off your back......
Just maybe LB you may hop the fence too....understand the differences to understand the problem.......feed the border towns.give them simple medical help and fix up their cummunities, make the water safe to drink....make dumps, dumps.not buffetts...and build the youth of the border towns through education....ask your neighbors like canada to help ..they will...It is better to build a boy then mend a man....maybe the money allocated should be looked at pro activly....and shame on you LB i know your a sitting rep,but at least if your gonna make decisions for others, you should find compassion in down trodding lifes not just sweeping them under rugs and calling them criminals.I wonder what jesus would think of your lack of vision and caring....staying is not an option for anyone...its time to build up north america.....and its not just the USA, but Canada needs to step up to.....

Knownothing, I’ve never said I blamed immigrants of any nationality for wanting to come to our country. My ancestors were all immigrants, including my “Native American” forefathers, but they all came here legally.

I have an enormous amount of compassion for poor people and have done what I can to help make their lives better. My husband and I took our two youngest kids with us to Mexico one winter to build a church and improve housing for the residents of a little town in Mexico on the Sonorran Desert, our daughter spent months in Brazil and Paraguay helping the populace, and we’ve sponsored many mission trips sending medical treatment, food and housing to folks all over the world.

What have you done to improve lives around the world?

As much as I feel for these poor folks, I will never agree that we have to allow illegal aliens to invade our country, drain our resources, and demand equal treatment with immigrants who came here legally and have worked hard to become productive and patriotic Americans. 911 should have taught us that all the folks coming across our borders are not our friends and have not come to this wonderful country to better their lives or the lives of anyone else.

America is my home and I will fight anyone trying to “break and enter” my domain. I'll dig deep in my pockets to help anyone who needs help, but the minute they start demanding I give them what I worked hard to earn, they're walking on my fightin' side.

nonothing, first things first,I believe its been proven many times how caring and generous Americans are.
But its no where as simple as you describe it to be,there are alot of dangerous folks along the Rio Grande, some parts of it,life aint worth much, including yours if you are unlucky enough to be there, drug running, murder corruption, slavery all a way of life in that part of the country, some parts of it seems like time has forgot, drug lords haveing brazen gun battles with the police in broad daylite, its easy to be compasionate when you are many miles away.
Mexico has to fix her own problems with our help, not the USA fix mexico's problems with Mexico's help.
The borders have to be secured first, then a systematic program of imigration and help would be next, there has been 30 years of neglect along the Rio Grande 911 has changed that...........good luck

Knownothing – here’s your chance to show compassion to some poor illegal immigrants. Dig deep in your pockets and send your extra change to help these multimillionaire celebs raise enough money to buy this land for the illegal aliens that refuse to move from private land.

Or are you just like these nutty celebrities who demand that someone else turn over hard-earned assets to lawbreakers, but don’t think enough of the cause to pony up the money needed to buy the land themselves.

$16 million amounts to petty cash to these folks and if they had the courage of their convictions, they’d come up with the money easily. Fly on down to Los Angeles, maybe you can take over tree sitting duty for these other hypocrites.

Daryl Hannah takes to trees to save farm
Celebrities join fight to stop development in Los Angeles
By JESSICA GOLDEN

June 1, 2006 — Amid the hustle and bustle of south central Los Angeles, actress Daryl Hannah perches in a walnut tree hoping to save one of south central's last pristine gardens from the threat of development.

Hannah's just one of the many celebrities, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Charlie Sheen and Ed Harris, helping more than 350 families fight for their 14-acre South Central Farm, a place that many of Los Angeles' lowest-income families depend on for food, green space and a safe haven.

Hannah, along with the other protesters, could be forced from the land at any time. On Wednesday a judge signed an eviction order calling for sheriff's deputies to remove them from the area.

The property is owned by Ralph Horowitz, who bought it in 2003. Horowtiz plans to pave the area and develop it; some speculate he may build a Wal-Mart.

He has offered to sell part of the land back to the farmers if they can come up with $16 million to pay for it. Horowitz gave them a deadline earlier this week to raise the money needed, but their efforts have fallen short, despite widespread support for their cause.

Hannah learned about the farm almost three weeks ago from Julia "Butterfly" Hill, the environmental activist known for her own stint in a tree. She spent more than two years perched in a redwood tree in Northern California to try to stop logging.

"I was absolutely stunned at how incredible this place really is and how amazing the people are," Hannah said. "My visit to the farm inspired me to do everything I can to save it for the families."

Alberto Tlatoa, one of the many people using the land, has grown food on South Central Farm for the past eight years. He knows firsthand the value that the farm holds, not just for his family but also the community.

"This project is fundamental," he said. "It's a safe haven for the community, a place for the elderly to come, and it's an important source of food for many low-income families."

It's unclear when the judge-ordered removal of the protestors and farmers will take place.

"We've included the community, farmers and even Daryl Hannah in exploring all of our options," said Steve Whitmore, spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. "We are going to do this methodically and with the full consideration of the community."

In the meantime, the 350 farmers and protestors currently on the land still hold out hope that they may be able to save one of the last patches of green in their area.

In your haste to name call Lb,you decided to go off again on your own direction....I am glad you helped out all these people and good on ya.That being said,it seems to me to deepen your disslike for illegals then your first posting(my opinion)...If you did go and built in mexico, then you saw the poverty first hand...Thus one would think your compassion to the mexican family struggle would be one of caring and understanding....The world is not owned,it is rented, and your nieghbor is spinning outta control....Do you have any remorse to the natives that lost thier land from your ancesters and mine? They came to someones home and took it,yet thats ok?..Stop the name calling, and focus on a positive answer to a hugeeeeee problem...I know my approach is,as i said,at the very least a daunting task.....but until Mexico becomes a prospitable place to live...no wall will stop those wanting more from life.

as far as your celb's and thier endeavour,it helps no-one to throw money at the problem on your side of the border...They should take that money and invest it in mexico.....Build wells of freash clean water.or start and educational fund. The ones that are already in the usa really are moot...You cant kick them all out....maybe make Mexico attractive enough so they will back go home.

many things are stopping people from going to mexico to fight the corruption.....If the average man had access to carpet bombing, certain fortified areas of Mexico then maybe you piont is of value...But they dont...you can make a war on terror .why not drugs too? I like you piont on illegals changing there goverment, but there you get shot for your view,in america you at least can live to see the next day....I agree the goverment of Mexico needs to be told...and i can think of no two people better to talk to them then.George.W,Bush and Stephen Harper.....

Knownothing, we're just going to have to agree to disagree. I will gladly help the less fortunate who are truly in need, but I refuse to give up anything to anyone who demands they be given the fruits of MY labor just because they think they are "entitled".

You go ahead and hand the Mexican government every penny you have and it won't change the corrupt way they conduct business. We’ve witnessed the corruption and graft first hand and giving ANY government more money only makes problems worse.

You can only help individuals who are willing to help themselves. Demanding special treatment and stealing from Americans is not going to endear these folks to anybody.

I got this from a friend tonight and it's just too good not to share on this thread. My Canadian brother-in-law thinks it's hilarious. Says he's noticed there seems to be an increase in liberal nuts up north and he wonders if Canucks could just spray to get rid of them?

Canada is busy sending back Bush-dodgers. The flood of American liberals sneaking across the border into Canada has intensified in the past week sparking calls for increased patrols to stop the illegal immigration.

The unflinching arrogance of the Bush Administration is prompting the exodus among liberal citizens who fear they'll soon be required to hunt, pray, and agree with Bill O'Reilly.

Canadian border farmers say it's not uncommon to see dozens of sociology professors, animal-rights activists, and Unitarians crossing their fields at night. "I went out to milk the cows the other day, and there was a Hollywood producer huddled in the barn," said Manitoba farmer Red Greenfield, whose acreage borders North Dakota. The producer was cold, exhausted, and hungry. "He asked me if I could spare a latte and some free-range chicken. When I said I didn't have any, he left. Didn't even get a chance to show him my screenplay, eh?"

In an effort to stop the illegal aliens, Greenfield erected higher fences, but the liberals scaled them. So he tried installing speakers that blare Rush Limbaugh across the fields. "Not real effective," he said. "The liberals still got through, and Rush annoyed the cows so much they wouldn't give milk." Officials are particularly concerned about smugglers who meet liberals near the Canadian border, pack them into Volvo station wagons, drive them across the border, and leave them to fend for themselves. "A lot of these people are not prepared for rugged conditions, an Ontario border patrolman said, "I found one carload without a drop of drinking water. They did have a nice little Napa Valley cabernet, though."

When liberals are caught, they're sent back across the border, often wailing loudly that they fear retribution from conservatives. Rumors have been circulating about the Bush administration establishing reeducation camps in which liberals will be forced to drink domestic beer and watch NASCAR. Liberals have turned to sometimes-ingenious ways of crossing the border. Some have taken to posing as senior citizens on bus trips to buy cheap Canadian prescription drugs. After catching a half-dozen young vegans disguised in powdered wigs, Canadian immigration authorities began stopping buses and quizzing the supposed senior-citizen passengers. "If they can't identify the accordion player on The Lawrence Welk Show, we get suspicious about their age," an official said.

Canadian citizens have complained that the illegal immigrants are creating an organic-broccoli shortage and renting all the good Susan Sarandon movies. "I feel sorry for American liberals, but the Canadian economy just can't support them," an Ottawa resident said. "How many art-history majors does one country need?"

In an effort to ease tensions between the United States and Canada, Vice President Dick Cheney met with the Canadian ambassador and pledged that the administration would take steps to reassure liberals, a source close to Cheney said. "We're going to have some Peter, Paul & Mary concerts.

And we might put some endangered species on postage stamps. The president is determined to reach out."

Both he and my sister drive for a big delivery company and alternate between his home in Ontario and my sister’s home in South Dakota. Right now their legal residence is SD, but that is mostly where they pick up the mail and do laundry. They spend weeks at a time on the highway making deliveries all over Canada, the USA and even into Mexico.

He knows absolutely nothing about ranching, so you probably haven't crossed paths, but he can tell you more than you want to know about trucks, highways and border crossings.

While I think the Canadian border also needs to be tightened, Hay Maker's post was more concerned with our southern border. A friend of mine sent me this letter to the editor he copied from his newspaper. It explains border security better than all the stuff you hear on TV:

"Recently large demonstrations have taken place across the country protesting the fact that Congress is finally addressing the issue of illegal immigration. Certain people are angry that the U.S. might protect its own borders, might make it harder to sneak into this country and, once here, to stay indefinitely. Let me see if I correctly understand the thinking behind these protests.

Let's say I break into your house. Let's say that when you discover me in your house, you insist that I leave. But I say, "I've made all the beds and washed the dishes and did the laundry and swept the floors; I've done all the things you don't like to do. I'm hard-working and honest (except for when I broke into your house)."

According to the protesters, not only must you let me stay, you must add me to your family's insurance plan and provide other benefits to me and to my family (my husband will do your yard work because he too is hard-working and honest, (except for that breaking in part).
If you try to call the police or force me out, I will call my friends who will picket your house carrying signs that proclaim my right to be there - and accuse you of being a racist. It's only fair, after all, because you have a nicer house than I do, and I'm just trying to better myself. I'm hard-working and honest ... um, except for .. well, you know.

And what a deal it is for me!! I live in your house, contributing only a fraction of the cost of my keep, and there is nothing you can do about it without being accused of selfishness, prejudice and being anti-housebreaker.

Did I miss anything?

Does this sound reasonable to you?

If it does, grab a sign and go picket something.

If this sounds insane to you, call your senators and enlighten them because they are stumbling in the darkness right now and really need your help."

I thought Canadians were our friendly neighbors to the north? :?
