Started out last week, rained Wed night, snowed Thursday, wet, heavy snow. Had to feed (and still have to) weaned calves with the tractor, top lot waaay too muddy.

Took the 6 wheeler out to start fixing fence, the elk pretty much destroyed the fence, we decided we're tired of rebuilding every year, sw is rolling up the wire to make it a larger pasture. It was 3 wire fence, top and bottom hot, I took off the insulators and pulled up the posts. Worked on it Thurs & Fri.

We moved cows into this larger pasture on Saturday. It took aaaalllllllll daaaaaaay!

We did this on the 6 wheeler and feed truck, storm comin' in, got a little wet and verrrrry cold!

Yesterday (Tues) was gorgeous, went to start fencing section 23. Got on top, pics of the old burn which occurred in Sept, 1984. Notice no trees have grown back, the tops of the hills used to be covered by them. Must have been an awesomely hot fire!

Another view of the old burn, plus you can see almost forever!

A strange rock by the fence. Looks like someone put it there!!!

Still on top, looking at three buttes.

Pretty, pretty flower!

Headed for home, tall rock cliffs. Part of our fence IS rock cliffs. It's a pain to have to check at the base, then go to the top...fencing isn't all that glorious here...

Signature rock, some early 1900's.

3-4 years ago, had a big fire, burned up 1200 acres, we call it the "new burn". Here's a picture of it.

Tonight it was thundering, lightning - bolts hitting the ground. I pray it is wet enough not to burn...

So that's my story and I'm sticking to it..... :D

Great pictures from a pretty country, Hanta Yo. You are lucky that where you live is both scenic and productive. Looks like a very good area in which to ranch. Thanks for the tour.

Thanks to all of you! My favorite place is on top of Sect 23, where you can see forever. I love this country, although sometimes it isn't very easy. Would like to spend more time with the cows than all the fence! However, if it wasn't for the elk, we wouldn't have this place :!: So I can't complain too much, love to see them in our travels around the ranch :D Along with the Antelope, Mule and White-Tailed deer, bobcats, mountain lions, badgers, gophers, rock chucks, mice, pack rats, bald eagles, owls, red-tailed hawks, finches, robins, bluebirds, black birds, turkeys, pinion jays and numerous others.

The signature rock is a rock we discovered in our wanderings around the ranch. We will take some better pics of it showing some of the very old dates. Has alot of history with it, anyone who had anything to do with this ranch had to carve their name in sandstone. We also have indian paintings, will get some pics of them, they are awesome.

We haven't put our names in the rock yet. There is also a rock about 7 miles from that one that has the initials of the people that homesteaded there and all of their kids. It is right below the Indian paintings so we'll have to get those pictures some day when we can get there, isn't this mud wonderful? It's still raining

Grat pictures of pretty country. Funny how us ranchers all have our favorite spots. We go up on section 8 to see the rest of the world also have the Three Sisters, 3 clay buttes. Down at the Outlaw caves names are carved into the sandstone. Guess thats why we are so close here on Ranchers cause we can all relate to each others lives so closely. We seem to understand each other better.

BMR, after reading about your country in that magazine I want to go up and see the outlaw caves and the stuff in your area. Your right, we all have so much in common, even the areas are so different sometimes. I hope your getting all of the rain too, wouldn't it be nice to see the Big Muddy muddy for a change. Hope calving is going well

I am happy for you guys. Nothing like starting out the year right with all that moisture. We aren't getting the rains yet. It was amazing the runoff we did have from such little snow as most of our Dugouts caugth enough water to fill or almost fill. we are just starting to calve with the first hfr. having one when out for the fisrt check of the morning. The Big Muddy doesn't have much water in it but what is their is sure pretty. We were riding up in that area Monday ,it was like the summer time with out the flies. Maybe you can take a couple of days this summer and come for a visit.

Say Hanta are you sure SW didn't put that rock by the fence so he had something to lean on while watching you fix fence?

You snuck this in just before sw responded to you about your area. Didn't see it til now. My response??

That rock is there for a purpose, not sure what the purpose but it isn't for me to lean on, I was too busy driving the Ranger and telling her how to fix the fence. No time to lean on anything but the gas pedal :!: faster I go the sooner she gets done.
