Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf pulled out of important, high level talks with Afghan President Hamid Karzai today and sent a high level envoy instead. The no show was a surprise to most observers. Now the independent media in Pakistan is announcing that he's declaring a "State of Emergency" and will cancel upcoming elections. The government owned media is denying it, but it does seem like a reasonable explanation for him withdrawing from the talks. He's under terrible stress, partly because of his support of the United States in Iraq. Will Pakistan be the next country to implode because of Bush's invasion of Iraq?
