Watchdog group cool to Paris when she sizzles

by John Gregerson on 5/26/2005 for Meatingplace.com

Heiress and professional celebrity Paris Hilton is generating — and receiving — a lot of heat as a result of her bikinied frolics with a water hose in a television spot for burger chain Carl's Jr.

Melissa Caldwell, research director for the Los Angeles-based Parents Television Council, characterized the ad as "soft-core porn" that is "inappropriate for television." PTC reportedly is planning to mobilize its more than 1 million members to protest the campaign and is considering asking the Federal Communications Commission to declare the ad indecent.

Carl's Jr. Marketing Manager Brad Haley previously indicated that Hilton was chosen for the campaign because "she fascinates Carl's Jr.'s most loyal customers, 'young, hungry guys' as well as 'young, hungry gals.'"

When it comes to selling beef, the cattlemen always want someone they can relate to such as Sam Elliott.

Meanwhile, the icons of potential beef customers would be Tiger Woods, Shaquille O'Neil, Jeff Gordon, Roger Clemens, Britney Spears, Brett Farve, Keith Urban, & Sugarland.

Sure, I want to hear Ben Johnson's voice selling beef but that wouldn't have the impact that Paris Hilton would have.

Reminds me of those who claim to be in the cattle industry and not the beef industry thinking they know more about marketing beef than those who actually market beef.

Let the advertisers do what they do best. "GET 'R DONE"!

I vote for Cattle Co. to serve on the CBB. His idea of Nascar sponsors and grabbing a willing Nolan Ryan were missed opportunities as far as I am concerned.

Just a thought.... seeing as most of the time, the woman of the house is the main grocery shopper, wouldn't it be logical for beef be promoted by a well-spoken good-looking man? The advertisers should be targeting women. Myself, I'd pay more attention to a man, than some willowy, starved out, anorexic chick!

Sam Elliot does it for me. Tom Selleck in the ruggad scruffy look is a real close second.

Well, I tried to download the commercial from the website, but seeing as how my computer come over on the ark, I didn't have the patience to wait. I have to admit she is eye candy for men, but could they not at least have picked a beautiful, intelligent woman??? Good Lord, this woman can't even put three words together to make a sentence!!! I know, I know! Men don't care about such things! :)

Does any ladies here know of Brad Johnson? He would be my second choice to advertise beef. (He's a close second to Tom Selleck.)

He does some ads for the Nutrition Council on RFD-TV. He was the boyfriend in 'Always' with Richard Dryfess. He was the outlaw in one of TNT's Tom Selleck movies. He is a rancher, team roper and movie star, and one good-looking guy. Looks like a beef eater...

JMO, you understand!!!

And I'm another who thinks they missed the boat when they didn't use Nolan Ryan!!!!!!

I have to agree with you Shelly. She doesn't do a thing for me,i don't even think she's that pretty. The air head act,is a complete turn off. There are a lot of beautiful woman out there, that are very intelligent that i would have rather chosen.
