I decided to head to the local weekly cattle penning today to take some shots. So... here they are.
Cows were a little fresh for them today! :)

Good pictures, Jigger Boss. I've participated in a few pennings through the years, and it is kind of fun. Once in a while I've even gotten lucky and managed to win a belt buckle. You have to handle cattle differently at a penning than I want them handled at home, and that is the only drawback.

Several years ago I furnished some Hereford cows with black baldy calves for a ranch rodeo. One of the events was a "pair penning." Each team had to sort out three cows and the proper three calves that went with the cows. There were 36 cows and 36 calves in the herd. Each cow and each calf had tags in both ears, so figuring out which calf went to each cow wasn't a problem. It put a different wrinkle into the game, and made it a bit more realistic. Rammin' and jammin' doesn't work when you are sorting pairs.

Thanks for the pictures.

I have to agree with you Soap. but you have to give credit to these folks for the way they handle their horses----NO TIE_DOWNS. :D
Thanks for the pictures.

That 'pair' deal would have been neat to see, Soapweed.

Mr. FH would agree with you on the team penning. He said, "that goes against everything I was ever taught about working a cow."

He did get entered a few times, when friends entered him whether he wanted to or not. It is kind of a fun event to watch when it is done correctly.

I put the captions up for you Jassy
I usually draw a blank when it comes to captions.

I'm not a penning fan, I like events with a little more 'class' and that doesn't rip the horse's mouth off  , but it was rather entertaining to watch the penners , and I got some fairly decent shots.
Don was the best one there, he's a very nice rider and easy on the horse's face. Quite a few of the penners weren't there on Saturday.
Next time I get a Saturday off work, I'll wander back down there to get more shots.

Team penning can be a fun diversion from time to time. I prefer team sorting though, as it seems a little closer to having a practical application for me.
