People being fired for not taking H1N1 vaccine

In what some experts think may be a harbinger of things to come this fall, officials of Dell Children's Medical Center in Austin have set up tents outside the hospital to accommodate the crush of patients flooding the emergency room with symptoms of the pandemic H1N1 virus, according to the Austin American-Statesman.

The two tents, which can accommodate eight to 16 beds apiece, were to be air-conditioned today.

According to the article, the hospital was on pace for an all-time record high in patients on Monday with 200 appearing before 3 p.m. That hour usually marks the beginning of the hospital's busy period because it is when school lets out. On Sunday, 343 patients swamped the emergency room. About 10 to 15 of the ER nurses are also out sick with influenza-like illness.

The tents will stay open to the public for as long as needed. Doctors told us more than half the patients here are testing positive for the H1N1 virus. The good news? They say H1N1 is no worse than the regular flu and in most cases can be treated at home.

bu since the sacre really hasn't started yet..

how about some other good vaccine news..
The FDA has approved the first vaccine for adult shingles.

The agency cleared the shingles vaccine -- known as Zostavax -- for use in adults age 60 and older: studies showed it can prevent shingles roughly half the time.

it's been out for three years now..

Had shingles a bit ago.

are there permanent complications?

not sure but I hear shingles is incredibly painful, so a vaccine with exptremly mild side effects seems to be alot better choice.. but like any vaccine you get,... doing a bit of research would be wise so you can make an informed decision..

the pain was awful, but not unbearable.

from what I've learned about vaccines in the past year, I'd rather deal with the pain.

Do they have a vaccine for childbirth pain yet?
