I am a member of other sites, including one of people that have chosen to make thier opwn Pet Food. I have learned a lot there and it has helped me to market Heart, Liver and Kidney from my own cattle into forms these folks want.

I will agree these folks can be a bit militant, but they are people that buy Beef, just not from the traditional sources. Often, these are groups of people who will totally stop eating meat until they find a source of meat produced and slaughtered in a way that they prefer. Then the meat has to pass the taste and texutre test..

I think too often we live in a world where we hear our perceptions and the thoughts of those who have a life sinilar to ours. This morning, I was struck by one Posters paradigm of the Beef Industry. It was in response to the recent ruling on Downer Cattle by FSIS... Here it is

Again, notice the emphasis on humane treatment of the cattle, NOT the potential risk of BSE. I'm sure most people want the animals for slaughter treated humanely before and during the slaughter, but the important part that is NOT mentioned is that the downer/non-ambulatory cattle MAY just have BSE and its threat to the population. THAT'S MY main concern.

There is a BIG difference between a cow with a broken leg, one with intestinal parasites, and one with BSE going to slaughter -- a BIG difference.

What a spin job. I turned my back on the big beef ranch industry over a year ago.

The beef ranch industry is mighty, mighty powerful. Until the bonds between ANY type of industry and government/regulatory agencies can be severed, we are at peril with any kind of food or product. And, I'm speaking of anything we buy. Producers should be meeting the very highest unbiased government safety standards established by independent science, not the government agreeing to standards set by the industry, which has "Profit first!" as its guiding principle

Now, we can bristle up or maybe it would be more appropriate to look at why this person felt this way.....

We are fortunate to be in a cycle of a declining worldwide Cowherd reduction where prices are buoyed...I think too often that maskd long term Demand Killers such as this one,

A person can gain some valuable insight from posts like that, or you can call them "on the fringe" and ignore what they have to say. Right now, we're either ignoring them or telling that they don't know what they're talking about because their views don't confirm to "sound science". And when that "sound science" is formulated largely according to the multi-national packer's business plans, that person's concerns are validated and we have a problem that we need to rectify. Time to wake up and pull our heads out....
