I understand it's not the free drugs but the "conventions" all expenses paid in Las Vegas and the expensive dinners that get these MDs to sign on to prescribe whatever drugs the vendors are pushing.

That is right! And what bugs the crud outta me is that when these perky, very attractive drug peddlers are shoved in front of the waiting patients, they always swing their hair back, throw their chin in the air, and walk right in like they are "due" this audience...they are entitled to it.
This drug peddling during office hours is one reason I'd really like for my husband to change docs. He takes time off from work to visit his doc...normally can only see the PA...and still has to wait for the drug peddlers to clear the office.

They are hired for their looks and most do not have to develop any other skills so they are left without a way to make a living as they age. Lots of excuses and plenty of time to put in expense vouchers which is all they learned to do, but no creativity or nose to the grindstone.

But I have also encounter lazy ones who coasted on their impressive height and good ol boy personality until they were 45 or so and then couldn't make the switch to using their talents instead of their looks or connections.
Of course it depends upon the person and the field. My brother in law is a salesman (manager) and he is finding life tough despite having a good brain and personality and a lot of talent. It's a young person's business. And you're right about the wear and tear too.
Good luck to your daughter, hope she's putting aside for a rainy day.

my wife works for a doctor.. he is really nice and tries to use the freebies to help his patient with poor prescription plans..
often on the way home my wife will drop off samples to homebound patients most who can hardly afford a doctor, let alone expensive medications..
so with out him spending time with a sales rep.. some patients would be spending time without medications...
I think that is a fair trade off...

Wrong again! It was not the conventions it was the thin blond woman that does it!
