I'm not surprised...wish I were! Ya' know, one reason it takes awhile to get into see some docs, even tho you have an appt., is that you have to wait until the drug peddlers leave.

I notice how there seems always to be a thin blonde woman in a business suit with a rolling suitcase full of free drugs leaving the doctor's office. And the doctor is always giving me freebies of my meds.

I understand it's not the free drugs but the "conventions" all expenses paid in Las Vegas and the expensive dinners that get these MDs to sign on to prescribe whatever drugs the vendors are pushing.

That is right! And what bugs the crud outta me is that when these perky, very attractive drug peddlers are shoved in front of the waiting patients, they always swing their hair back, throw their chin in the air, and walk right in like they are "due" this audience...they are entitled to it.

This drug peddling during office hours is one reason I'd really like for my husband to change docs. He takes time off from work to visit his doc...normally can only see the PA...and still has to wait for the drug peddlers to clear the office.

There's nothing sadder than an aging salesperson.

They are hired for their looks and most do not have to develop any other skills so they are left without a way to make a living as they age. Lots of excuses and plenty of time to put in expense vouchers which is all they learned to do, but no creativity or nose to the grindstone.

Actually it's a very demanding profession. But you're right...being very nice looking (male or female) is a good starting point, but a bachelor's degree is the minimum educational requirement, the hours are long, the territories large and the pressure high as the competition is very intense. They make great money but you're tight reader...time usually does catch up with them and when they begin to show their age they better start looking for new work. My youngest daughter has been in pharmaceutical sales for about 14 years and covers a huge territory and most week nights are spent on the road.

I've worked with some very nice salespeople and some creative and clever ones. But I have also encounter lazy ones who coasted on their impressive height and good ol boy personality until they were 45 or so and then couldn't make the switch to using their talents instead of their looks or connections.

Of course it depends upon the person and the field. My brother in law is a salesman (manager) and he is finding life tough despite having a good brain and personality and a lot of talent. It's a young person's business. And you're right about the wear and tear too.

Good luck to your daughter, hope she's putting aside for a rainy day.

Thanks Reader. And I t hink she is doing some heavy duty saving. She knows that "time" will get her job. Luckily she's also a certified teacher so hopefully can use that when the time comes.

my wife works for a doctor.. he is really nice and tries to use the freebies to help his patient with poor prescription plans..

often on the way home my wife will drop off samples to homebound patients most who can hardly afford a doctor, let alone expensive medications..

so with out him spending time with a sales rep.. some patients would be spending time without medications...

I think that is a fair trade off...

It is a fair trade off...and your wife's employer is a good man...and your wife is a good woman. Too bad more docs don't see it that way.

Most good doctors have no problem giving you samples of the same medicine they are prescribing you. I've received them several times over the years without even mentioning it to the MD. There's nothing else they can do with them as it's illegal to sell them.

Wrong again! It was not the conventions it was the thin blond woman that does it!

Our family doctor is like this also, he really helped my grandma out because her Government controlled Health Insurance (medicare) would not pay for some medicines for her, so he would give her samples!

are they "targeting" doctors by hair color and sexual preference now?

I did not know that.

so who are they sending to the female East Indian Dr's office?

These drug companies have it figured out.

Dang, I bet Ranchers would fall for hot female salespersons showing up too. You could afford to have some calves die, cause you bought from a good looking person over an ugly one, couldn't you?

But what if all companies did that.

How would they know if you prefer blondes/redheads/brunettes?

Dang, hope you aren't in the field and the wife answers the door. She might just find out that you prefer blonds
