philosophical questions for fun

I am looking to steer away from political debates, many times it just get personal, from both myself and others.

So I have decided to start a thread with a more philosophical angle. Today's questions will be on Luck. This is strickly for fun,so all name calling or mean spirited remarks will be sad to see.

1)How much does luck play apart in our everyday life's.Some say 90% luck 10% our own decisions get us to where we are.?Others turn it around to 90% our decisions 10 % to luck.Of course there are many different %'s one could say,Which %'s would you give as an answer?

2)Does hard work bring good luck and if so does laziness bring us bad luck?

3)If you wish your opponent good luck at the start of say a tennis match, are you there-for wishing yourself bad luck????

4)Do you think the word luck is just another word for pre ordained?

If you feel like a challenged today give us your answers to these questions.I hope some will enjoy the debate that may develop from questioning,good/bad luck..I find it odd that we call people that enjoy good luck, lucky, but call those that suffer bad luck,unlucky...

I hope some find this fun to do_Oh and i wish you all the best of luck. :D

I never made a claim to be the first person to offer this topic for disscussion.Either you have a view or you do not,to tell me to go read something and not leave your own answer kind of takes the fun out of it.

Well here's my .02cents worth...I think everyday is a lucky day to be alive and breathing! When the day goes smoothly, I feel lucky to live the life I do....and when some bumps occur...it gives us something to talk about at the supper table...Lucky to have our loved ones around to talk to... So yes I believe in good luck..to be lucky...and once in awhile to get lucky!

I agree with Jassy, if you wake up breathing in the morning, you really don't have much to bitch about. a man does not have to look far to see someone who is in a worse situation than himself. I would say it has less to do with luck, and more to do with how you perceive, and handle lifes curve balls. I walked away from a GREAT job and took a chance on managing a farm/ranch in southern Kansas. in 3 months it fell apart ( woman owner in a divorce, just wanted crops out...long story short- I got hood-winked) so, we still owned a home back here. spent three days repainting some rooms and things before moving back in, and the night before all our stuff arrived, the house burned to the ground. bad luck? maybe, but I never would have had the opportunity to buy the place I live on if it never happened, and I never would have realized the great area it is I live in!

A good attitude is as much part of "luck" as anything -- there is always a way to find good in the adverse --and as it was pointed out above --the Bible tells us that is exactly what God promises to do with "that which is bad" --

I don't believe in luck nor I do believe in coincidences. It's all part of plan --
I just wish somedays that I got a newsletter or something with a plan outline :) :)

You did deserve a better answer than I gave. I'm sorry for being flippant.

Some say, "you make your own luck". I believe that we have a great responsibility for our lot in life. Having said that, I also know that we cannot control many details or major events in our lives. Hence my reference to Job.

What you are questioning indirectly is known to many as "theodicy", or, how much God controls the events of our lives. Some say He has absolute Sovereignty in all the details of life. The problem with that approach is that He is then responsible for evil as well as good.

I believe that we have the power of choice and sometimes our choices have consequences that we did not anticipate or wish for. So who do we blame for that?

Other times, we can clearly see that it is true that "no good deed goes unpunished". Some very good people have suffered great hurt through no apparent fault of their own. Life and its mysteries!

I concur with Julie who wishes for a little clearer vision at times!

I guess I would consider "luck" another word for "fate".....I am a strong believer in "fate" and also believe that where we end up is where we are (and have always been) destined to be!! Not sure if this answers your question, nonothing, but hope it helps!!! :D
