I went with Mr. FH to put out mineral this morning. I haven't convinced him to take the camera (or the cell phone) when he is horseback, so
I took the opportunity today to take some pictures.

Magnatitude AI calf off 2 year old heifer, born Mar. 10.
The heifer calves come 14 days early it seems.

Mr. FH looking at the Aerator installed by BLM to aerate the resevoir.
Next picture shows where the air comes up in the water. Interesting and
the first time I had seen it operate.

Good lookin cattle FH!! Don't worry, your not the only one that can't get someone to carry a cell phone. Even when he does carry it, he leaves it turned off unless he's on it talkin to someone, then turns it right back off again. And I ain't lettin him carry my camera...no way!!!! LOL

Magnitude is a heifer bull from ABS. OCC Magnitude 805 M. He is a son of Emlbazon, from Ohlde's in Kansas. We used him as the only AI sire, and didn't pull a calf.
We are looking for more muscle and less size in the bulls we select and
I like the Emblazons for that. The cow is a daughter of EXT. That made me hesitate, but we don't have any EXT in our cows and we haven't seen yet any disposition problems with the calves. We'll know more when we give the fall shots I suppose. We plan to keep the heifers for replacements, but not if their disposition isn't what we want. Disposition goes a long ways around here.

Boy, I like those Angus. Great quality, thickness and depth. A nice set of cows and heifers.

Are there any rattlers in those rocks behind the soapweeds. Tell Mr. FH he really ought to carry his cell phone, especially when he's out by himself.

Thanks for the great pics.

Great pictures, FH. I do enjoy looking at top quality black cattle. What is the purpose of the aerator and what is the little tank on the windmill? Does it tend to keep the water free of moss and other growth? Just one more thing to learn from folks in different parts of the country. Your country looks good, especially for being so dry.

You have my approval on the cattle and grass conditions you guys have FH. Boy, those are good thick built cattle.  The grass and brush in your area are almost identical looking to what you see around here. But being less than 100 miles away from here maybe that isn't surprising.

Everything looks good. :!:

Yep- cows look nice- and your grass is looking better than we have up here now...BLM is telling more and more folks that they have to plan on removing their cattle from the BLM pastures in the next two weeks- some others by October 1....Without a major rain event, some more pastures will be out of water soon... I forsee the price of hay raising rapidly.....

Thanks everyone for your kind words.

About the Aerator, we don't know for sure what that plastic thing is or does. That's what Mr. FH was looking at. He thought he knew, but
decided he didn't... That is a really big resevoir but I guess
they set up the Aerator to keep the water moving so it won't get stale.
As if we don't have enough wind to do that...

Guess we better find out a little more about it!

Faster Horses, those cattle are looking well fed and content. Your Montana soapweed appears amazingly like the ones found in Nebraska.
