We usually keep back the dink calves, winter them on hay and water, and grass them over the summer. We went out to gather them up, only to find that some had broke out overnight and mixed with some cows. So we brought some cows too, which probably worked in our favour as these yrlgs have had very little human interaction and less human on horseback interaction.

Onto the road we go. In the distance you can actually see the end of the road. :D

A couple miles down the road and they still need to be slowed down. There is only fence on one side of the road and hundreds of acres of bush on the other, so the incentive is high to keep them on the "straight and narrow".

Off the road and through a field:

Anybody want to buy a bull? Too late, he's gone :D

Some more road and we're home, with everyone we started out with :)

After all was said and done, the yrlg steers averaged 860lbs and fetched $1.06. The heifers were light, averaging 780 lbs @ $.96. If we had sold these tail enders last fall the heifers would not have brought $400 and the steers about $500, so things worked out more to our satisfaction doing it this way.

I heard you live at the end of the road. Those roads sure make for easier cattle driving and the traffic doesn't look too bad there. :)

That country doesn't look to bad for fall Silver, a little rain has made a little grazing. Your leaves are a lot greener than here, we have full falltime colours.

Cattle summered well and yearling sold fine. It won't be too hard to sell calves on this market.

I guess it's a fair year to be so short of feed, it won't hurt so bad to sell all the calves but replacements. Hopefully the cow prices don't drop any more.

Too bad freight so bad there's alot of feed in this country.

I've heard that NR. I think trucking is the business to be in :? On second thought, I guess it's just that the price of trucking demonstrates to us how the price of our product has not kept pace.
