What the heck happens if that thing with the calves on it tipps over? Or do they tip over?

Those calf sleds are a good idea. I moved one on the back of the truck tonight, pigging string came lose , he got up and fell off the back of the flat bed. Had to catch him and throw him back up there, retie him and go again. I'm not much of a cowboy. I never have been able to keep them littel devils tied. I like your sled better. I bet the cows do too. They'd sure follow them that way.

Some guys have all the luck. Good pictures, Cal. Looks like nice healthy twins. We have had several sets this year, but on two cows we lost both calves out of both cows. That didn't pay too well. Fortunately the live twins from the other cows more than made up the difference.

Thanks for the photos Cal. You are looking "greenish" down your way. We are trying, but it is slow. It is lightly raining here now, but it isn't amounting to much.

We don't have much for twins anymore since our cattle are closer to straight angus. Used to count on 1% a year. Give me one live calf every time, and I'm happy.

You were at the right place at the right time Cal, to capture pictures of twins...that's so cool. I hadn't seen a calf sled like yours, and it looks like it works pretty good. Calving seems to be going good for ya..hope the weather and Mother Nature keep on being nice to us all..Thanks

Silly, those little black calves are so tough they enjoy being tipped over. :D

Come on, I posted a picture of one red cow...that counts, right?

Red Robin, try using some of those disposable nylon ties instead of the pigging string. They need to be kind of good ones, at least 11" long, and just catch the first notch to make a circle, slip it over two legs, and cinch it up...like plastic handcuffs.

I'm happy with one live calf as well, alot easier on the cow to boot. Tap, we don't have much in reserve to keep anything looking green just now. It might start looking more like late Fall than Spring pretty quick. Hope your light rain kept on until it did some good.

AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

What li'l darlin's! Those are some seriously long-legged calves!!!!!!

Love your sled idea, but it wouldn't work here at all........just too much flat ground here (vertically flat, that is  ).........and too many big rocks and trees.

Maybe try making one with the runners a little farther apart for extra stability on those steep inclines. :???:

Funny thing, if you hook them behind something that has smelly exhaust...like an old carbuerated pickup that's set too rich, some cows seem to get kind of confused about following. We also used to have a Native guy work for us that didn't bathe much but used gobs of cheap cologne instead (yuk). The cows hated him....he couldn't move pairs for nothing, but my wife can pull 'em around all day with hardly ever a problem. Funny, though, if you move them quite a ways the calves are a little dizzy momentarily when you unload them.

Enjoyed the pictures. I had a set of twins about 10 days ago to kick off my calving season. Was excited to have an extra calf right off the bat, because it never seems I have one when I need one. The unfortunate thing was momma loved one and hated the other. Thus, the orphan was on a bottle right from the start. I didn't have any frozen or powdered cholostrum (sp??) and didn't get the cow in to milk any out. Terrible error on my part because the poor thing didn't live but about 4 days. :(
