My son's trap shooting club competed Thursday, Friday & Saturday at Doniphan, NE. This is the largest youth shooting event of it's kind in the world with close to 2000 kids invoved. Competition is extremely tough. A Grand Island newspaper suggested that this event would bring $500,000 to the local economy. It is mind boggling to think about the investment in guns and accessories represented at this shoot.
The weather cooperated fairly well considering the violent storm warnings predicted for the area. It rained making the grounds muddy and it was cool and windy, which made shooting difficult.
Our Junior High team won that division for the second year in a row with a score of 456 broken targets out of 500. This may be the first time that has ever happened. The 5 man squad shot 100 targets each at 16 yards and were finished on Thursday. On this team, Lane Haller tied for 3rd with 97/100, Nick Yardley tied for 4th with 96/100 and Nolan Rager tied for 12th with a score of 94.
The second of our four sons completed as a Senior which was his last year. He has been shooting since his Jr. High School years. On this team he shot with Matt Yardley, Dan Hess, Bre Hardin and Brandon Hilliker. They scored well but did not place.
The Senior High teams competed on Friday & Saturday. They shot 100 targets from the 16 yard line the first day. Depending on that score they faced another 100 targets on Saturday in the handicapped portion of the competetion. The higher their score from 16 yards, the farther out they were to shoot in the handicap, to a maximum of 27 yards. This adds up to 1000 targets per team for the competetion.
To give an idea of the level of competetion, from 16 yards there were 3 Senior High shooters who hit a perfect 100/100, 17 kids broke 99/100, 21 shot 98/100 and 46 hit 98/100 on day one.
These first two pictures give an idea of the layout. They were taken from a crowsnest in the middle of a line of 24 trap houses.
The first one was taken looking east and the second looking west:

Can you see the load of shot streaking for the target(?):
And a couple of well broken targets. If you look closely there are only small pieces of target visible:
