Sortingcowstobuy.jpg

Sorting cows on a chilly Friday morning. The man on the big bay bought 50 coming-three-year-olds from me. There were 189 to choose from.
I priced them at $1050 if I picked, or $1200 if he picked. He paid the higher price so he could pick. He did the right thing.

You did very well Soapweed, I was at a bred sale last Wednesday. The high sellers were a group of red baldy 3 year olds that brought $810.00 per head.
Most good usable cows sold between $700.00 and $790.00.

You did good on the cows. We started caking here today, cows were thinking it was about time especially since it turned cold. -13°F yesterday morning.

Looks like you got a good price, and the buyer got great cows. I'd think all parties concerned should be quite happy with the events of the day.

We did consider it a "win, win" situation for both parties. The couple and their three kids are a fine young family. They are some of the hardest working people you will ever come across. Their workmanship on fences and building projects are of the highest quality. These coming three-year-old cows should last them for many years and produce good females to go back into the herd.

I feel those cows were a bargain. I've purchased bred heifers for $1125 a head and when the smoke cleared I'd have been better off paying more for some just a tick older and experienced.Sounds like a good deal all around. In the one picture his wife looks very happy when they are unloading them. You can see their pride in their purchase right there.
