I am rather fond of the windmill pictures. I've always liked windmills. Started way back when I was maybe 2 or 3 years old, we'd go to the sandhills state park, ride our lil surf boards (or at that age...prolly just played in the sand) but at the end of the day, there was a windmill and tank there in the park, that was the thing to do, get in, wash the sand off and then git dry and get in the truck to go home. I've always wanted to have one. Well, we have one.....but it's not sittin on a well as of yet, it's down at the lil old barn layin with the fan detached from the stand.

 ahhhh some day :)

I see you are on.

I'm heading to bed, but before you go, would you check out Brad's
post on Political Bull...the 'bump' thing? I don't get it and he has put
'bump' at the end of most of the posts there.

I hope you 'get it' and can explain it, so I can 'get it' too.

Glad you like my only Hereford. He is half Simmental, part Red Angus, Gelbvieh, and just a smidgeon Hereford, but the Hereford color code came through. He's a pretty good calf.

One of our windmills is out of commission at the moment. The wooden pumprod broke off way down deep, so a well man with a boom truck is coming this morning to hopefully rectify the situation. The windmill is clear up in the rough South Dakota hills, so it might turn into a big project just getting the truck into the proper location.

your pictures always bring a sense of peace and belonging!! I am so very glad you find the time to download these and share with the rest of us!! I, too, love windmills...heck, you'd think as windy as it gets in this valley, it'd be chock-full of them....NOPE!! I would love to have one here....just to give the power companies a piece of my mind!!

This may sound like a stupid question, but why use wooden pump rods. why not sucker rod? That's what everyone that I've ever known out in west texas used. Is it that sucker rod aren't handily available up there? What kinda wood is the pump rod made out of?

Soapweed, be careful. If you keep posting pics like these you might end up with way more neighbors than you bargained for. Perhaps you should consider posting pics of the not-so-fun days around the Soapweed outfit so as to keep folks from getting any silly ideas of heaven on earth. Thanks for taking us there this morning.

JL2000- If soapweed has wells like ours, they use wood rods cuz they were originally built with them. Mostly white oak. Also have friends in NE New Mexico that still have wooden rods in their windmills.
