I gathered the cows, and trailed them to shelter...just in case the weather gets nasty tonight

You live in a beautiful part of ranch country, WR. Hope you get just the right amount of moisture but escape any serious blizzards. Your calves look big enough to be able to stand quite a lot. Happy Trails.

How populated is your area WR. Are the neighbors Ag types or are there "immigrants".

Mostly have squatters for neighbors.

The ranch is bordered by housing development on three sides  . This is one of the last ranches in this area. I absolutely hate the development, but understand why people sold out to it. Guess you never know what you'll do until you walk in another's shoes.

The goal is to maintain this as a ranching asset. This land darn sure doesn't need to be planted to a bunch of houses. I hope I never see that happen, but you never know if/how family will break something up. Once it's gone, it's gone for good.

Thanks for sharing the pics WR, I had forgotten how "big" that part of the world is. Beautiful country. It's too bad cattle don't naturally herd as close together as bison did, to keep that grazing hoof action concentrated on smaller areas instead of spreading around. Lots of factors that play into why that is, as we all know.

Glad to hear you're holding out in a world of development. We've got a land baron and a hutterite colony on our west side, and a huge oil storage facility on our east. Town of Hardisty borders the north end of our pasture, so we feel a little 'surrounded' at times also. Then again some days I feel like selling all but one section back in the hills and living off the land, armed only with a spade, The Master Gardener's Handbook, a Wolfhound and 30.06 Springfield.
