Very nice pics Tap. Kinda similar country to here except that the last major fire to go through here was in 1910, I'm told.

Mrs. Greg, I think the paint is a sound horse, but is being sold only to make room for other young ones. He sure seems to do a great job of dragging calves.

I think he told me that the horse is 7. Better go pick him up.

Nice pictures, Tap. Glad you took the trouble to climb the tall promitory so that you could take the "bird's eye view" panoramic shot. Looks like nifty country where you had the opportunity to ride and brand. Thanks for posting.

Hey Tap, maybe we should have carpooled. I spent the weekend branding at my in-laws at Alzada.
My wife looked at the pictures and didn't recognize anyone though. I am sure her dad would(Ed Lawrence)
Sunday morning just to see some country we went to Camp Crook so we drove right through the long pines area.

Hi Doug, glad you got to see some of this part of the world. Even though we are going to need more rain, for now it looks real good around here. They seem to get more moisture in the Long Pines area (I suppose because of elevation) than we do, and it really looks good up there. How was Alzada? I think they have gotten fair moisture there. We are not so far across country from there. Ed and I recognize each other, but I cannot say that I know him well. I have known who he is for a long time. He kind of towers over a crowd. :!:

You hereford guys stick together don't you?  :D

Alzada looks good. A couple guys wondered if it ever had looked as good as it does this year. They will need to keep getting rain though as there isn't a lot of sub-moisture. They had a pretty good year last year and Ed had sold down so he has a lot of old grass too.

I must have a thing about red hair and it took a long time to find a red head that grew up around Herefords

That sounds about right. I remember my grandma talking about that fire. It really scared the folks down in Eastern MT as there was smoke and the smell of smoke for quite a while. Folks were scared it was some giant fire burning their way. No quick communication at that time, so folks basically lived in fear for several months until the smoke dissipated.

Can you imagine that? Smoke clouds that were covering 400 miles? I've seen them in the air for 150 or so, but to smell it all Summer just waiting for it to come burning over the horizon. That is a bit of a chilling thought as to how our ancestors lived.
