Yep.....just another day in paradise :!:

You updated the Ranger, Soap. Any difference in ride, etc....? What size did you get?

I like my solar pumps for summer time use but its hard to beat a windmill with big enough tanks for storage for year around use. They still work as good as they did a 100 years ago. One of my windmills is about 80 years old and still working good.

We got our first Ranger two years ago. It was an '07 500 model. Last year we got an '08 700 model. The 700 was just a lot more fun to drive than the 500. A couple weeks ago, Tehrani's gave us a great deal and we traded the 500 for a '10 800 model. It is a pretty good outfit, but I still like the 700 the best. It has 26 inch tires where the 800 only has 25 inch tires. There is a nice tool box under the driver's seat on the 700 that opens from the outside. This is a handy place to carry a staple bucket and a spool of wire. A smaller version of the tool box is under the seat in the 800, but the seat has to be lifted up to gain access. Probably the only advantage to this is that if you cross deep water, the contents will stay drier in the 800 box. The 800 seems louder than the 700. The 800 has more open cubby holes to store stuff, but they are smaller than what the 700 offers. In the 700, there is a big enough opening to put fence pliers in just to the left of the steering wheel. This is very convenient. The cubby hole is too shallow in the 800 to carry the fence pliers without them occasionally bouncing out.

In my humble opinion, the Polaris is a great outfit. They ride smooth, go as fast as you want, and can haul a big load. The bench seat which allows seating for three comes in handy very often. They can even get tipped over with no damage occurring. I have to say that riding a Polaris has put a lot of fun and efficiency into ranching.

There is talk that Polaris and Bob Cat may join forces. My suggestion for a name for the new venture would be "Pole Cat." They are both very reputable companies, and should be able to come up with a smooth riding heavy duty workhorse of a utility vehicle.

Thanks for the review, Soap. You've really come a long way from the dyed-in-the-wool cowboy from the old forum, I'm proud of you :D  :p (you can take a joke, right?) Keep us updated, I'm real interested. Do you plan to get any of the cabs or heater offered?

No. The cabs and heaters seem rather over-priced for what you get. If I want and cab and heater, I'll just take a pickup. They can get through deep snow much better than a Polaris, anyway.

I like the "freedom" of no cabs and no doors, but do strongly believe in wearing eye protection while dashing through the hills. There are too many grasshoppers and grass seeds bouncing up, and they can sure get into your eyes.
