Takes a while with this small cutter, but it gets the job done...eventually.

2006-06-28-016-sawmill-base.jpg

This is the base for the steam engine that powered an old sawmill that was in Mr Lilly's family back in the late 1800s/early 1900s. I"m not sure when it was moved or tore down. But this is all that's left.

Thanks Ranchy, it's a Fuji digital. S-3100. Not a real expensive one either. I don't know what their current model would be that's equivelant to it, I've had this one about a year and a half, so their new model is probably better than this one. But I'm very happy with it.

Haymaker,
The rains we got in the last couple weeks probably doubled our hay crop this time. Really helped out alot. And if that lil tropical depression comes in that'll be timin things just right for another cuttin. I sure hope you get some of it too. I hadn't seen that until you pointed it out, I'd checked the weather a couple days ago as far as percent of rain chances and then we decided, (along with lots of other folks I noticed) to cut. I been drinkin water all mornin storin it up LOL cuz it's hot out there about 3pm. Bout 80 now, but by the time we get out and get started it'll be about 95 or so.

Those photos are gorgeous. You people are going to have to stop teasing me with all these amazing photos of the wide open spaces and the never ending skies. I just can't wait!!!!!! I love BC to visit but there is nothing like the praires. My folks just headed off to Alberta for the summer. Hope they don't get rain all summer like last year. They had fun anyhow .

Mr. Lilly must be one tough man to sit out in the hot sun like that and cut hay! Me, I get whiny if my air-conditioning can't keep me cool! Yesterday, the alternator on my tractor decided to give up, so to keep me cutting (and cool), we pilfered one off another tractor. It's a little smaller than what it should be, so I hope it keeps working. It's so hot here, the AC is cranked right up. But ...... if I have no air, no hay is being cut. I think we're going to end up with one heck of a thunderstorm some time today. It's not only hot, but very, very humid.

We've never had a tractor with A/C......ya just hafta drink plenty of water and keep your speed up to where it makes you think there's a breeze. Long as ya do that, it's not so bad. We use this lil tractor to cut and rake with, and the Case 966 to bale with. It was a cab tractor when it was new, but I don't know if it had A/C.......when we got it someone had taken the doors off and removed all the windows. I don't mind the heat long as I can keep my jug of ice water with me. When Mr Lilly is cuttin most of the time I'm sittin somewhere in the hayfield with an ice chest and plenty water for him to stop and get a cool drink when he needs to.

LOL right now the F350 is the only truck we have that has A/C. and it don't work all that great, only time we use that truck is pullin the horse trailer, or cattle trailer. My lil toyota doesn't have it at all, just has factory heat. The Jeep...well the condensor coil has a hole in it. So ya just take the winders off and go.....and our son's lil truck A/C dont work either. Findin time to fix it all is the problem.....but I"m not gonna complain, if ever thang got fixed, I'd still be drivin the only vehicle without an air conditioner.........

All done

While we were busy makin hay, Lil Lilly and a friend of hers went swimmin.......in the tank.........(not me...I don't swim in water I can't see the bottom in) and there's GOOD reason for that!!!!!
2006-06-29-022-girls-swimmi.jpg

Two lil gals havin a good ole time (boy are they in for a surprise)
Just as we decided to tell em to git on outta the water, we were ready to head to the house........a big ole snake swam right by them.....talk about squeelin and hollerin, and not long to git outta the water....
Lil Lilly wanted it dead...Can't say I blame her.....
2006-06-29-killin-snake.jpg

Biggest snake I think I've seen so far in this neck of the woods!!!...
2006-06-29-033-big-snake.jpg

Was just a couple inches shy of 6 ft long.

(wonder if they'll go swimmin in the tank anymore???)

Your hay looks to be adding up very well. Interesting pictures. Lil Lilly is pretty brave to go after that big ol' snake with such a lil ol' machete. She's a fine young lady.

Well you done good girl, and the best part..."no custom baleing fees this year" as I look at your pictures it makes me think of times past, families baleing hay, kids swimming in tanks ......it dont get any better than that...............good luck
PS How is that calf coming along?

It was a chicken snake.......Lil Lilly as she was holdin it up, asked, "How do ya tell a girl snake from a boy snake" My best answer was, "I've always heard the girl snakes are bigger than the boy snakes" I don't know if that's true or not......but I wasn't gonna search n find out LOL
NON poisonous, but have also heard that if they bite, it gets infected just from all the nasty stuff they eat. EWWWW

Accordin to Ranchers Weather it was callin for 95 degrees, I never seen a thermometer yesterday, but I bet it was ever bit of that if not a lil hotter.

I knew the girls were out messin round in the pasture, and kinda had a feelin they'd end up swimmin, but when we got thru balin and back to the truck after we parked the tractors....She'd left me a scribbled note on a chunk of the twine box, and put it on the steerin wheel, "Gone Swimmin at the big tank, I love you Mommy"

(She only calls me Mommy when she's hopin she won't get in trouble)

Oh n Faster horses...she's got them "Alan Jackson" britches on again.

Haymaker,
The calf seems to have perked up some, but this evenin hopefully after we haul bulls to get em tested, we'll get him caught again and give him another dose of LA200.

I"m sellin my Brangus Bull "Emory" that I raised....ya know the big baby.....this is gonna be hard, but if he tests good, (which I don't see why he wouldn't cuz we got loads of calves on the ground from him) the Ag teacher has a small lease pasture with about a dozen new cows on it, and needs a bull. Better'n sendin him thru the salebarn as packer. Least I feel better about it. LOL Still prolly gonna make me bawl like a baby to get rid of him. But I made a promise, I'm never gettin attached like this to another Bull. But after raisin him from 2 mo old.....then goin thru him healin after a broke front leg........how can you not get attached to one? He's never offered to be bad in any way thru all that. The Ag teachers Dad has retired and has a ranch down in South Texas as well, not sure where, but wanted a few up here too to mess with when he's not down there. So Emory fits into what they are doin with so few cows here.

hahaha maybe in the hill country but.....we have alot of copperheads, water moccasins, spread netters, and even a few coral snakes too. Seems they are all out millin around perdy thick these days. Our son went out to pick tomatoes and squash evenin before last, and came back tappin on the kitchen window......holdin up one he'd killed in the garden. He is most definately NOT a snake person.
