“We are deeply saddened and shocked by this tragedy and our main concern is helping his family in any way we can,” Pam Golum, a spokeswoman for the production company behind “Cops,” said in a statement to the Washington Post. “Bryce Dion was a longterm member of the ‘Cops’ team and a very talented and dedicated person. We mourn his passing. An investigation is ongoing and we are cooperating with local authorities.”

Omaha police announced a new conference for later Wednesday afternoon. KMTV-TV will live-stream it here.

Update 4:00 p.m. ET: Omaha police on Wednesday afternoon said Dion was killed by police officers who opened fire to prevent an ongoing robbery, according to the Associated Press. Police said they did realize the suspect, who was also killed by police gunfire, was carrying an Airsoft gun capable of firing only plastic pellets.

All three officers involved in the shooting are on leave, according to the Associated Press.

So, why the gunfire killing two, including an innocent? :???: :???: :???:

Or did that statement leave out a key word?

I read it twice.. seems either the word NOT was missing,... or these fellows should NOT be policemen?

( It must be an editing error.. or maybe the local press wants to cover a riot this weekend)

it is also my opinion if a thug wants a victim to believe it is a real gun,.. then the thug shouldn't be to shocked when police shoot and kill him when they think it is a real gun... :?

Police definitely shouldn't be allowed to carry a gun. It's events like this that cause the public to over react.

Someone might try to point out that it was one person's poor judgement, but we all know that it represents all gun carrying police.

Maybe give them knives so anyone further than 10 feet won't be harmed.

Absolutely need to outlaw the show Cops. There had to be some common sense laws passed before people over react!

Did you see the picture of the suspects gun? It even had Taurus written plainly on it- and in the picture of a real Taurus and it laid side by side looked almost identical...

COPS TV Technician Killed During Robbery Investigation

Audio technician is reportedly struck by gunfire during filming in Omaha

Wednesday, August 27, 2014

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Police who opened fire while disrupting a robbery at a fast-food restaurant in Omaha struck and killed a crew member with the "Cops" television show and the suspect, who was carrying a pellet gun, authorities said Wednesday.

Police Chief Todd Schmaderer said witnesses and officers thought the robbery suspect's Airsoft handgun was real, but that it fires only plastic pellets. He said the suspect fired from the pellet gun before officers returned fire. The suspect was struck by gunfire, but fled outside of the restaurant before collapsing.

Officers continued firing on the suspect as he exited the restaurant, and that was when the "Cops" crew member was also struck, said Schamaderer.

Schmaderer said he believes the three officers involved acted properly during the attempted robbery Tuesday at a Wendy's in midtown Omaha.

Must e some really right Police up there. If as they said, the suspect did fire the toy gun before they shot him, they would know it was a fake..........
Couldn't have been very loud being an airsoft??????????????????

I guess we have to place them in the same IQ class with OT.

The gun being an airsoft gun instead of a real gun is a mute point. When a criminal points a gun at you, you don't have to time to study and figure out what it is - you have only time to react to save your life.

The crew member getting killed is a bad deal, but bad things are liable to happen when you're at a gun fight.

I agree of course, but that wasn't my point. I was questioning the wording of the report, which if true, brings into question why the police fired in the first place.

no I didn't look at the gun,..I have seen enough to know that many look very realistic..

but it is "clear" you didn't read my comment...

I felt it was an editing error that left out the word NOT,...

I also feel if a "thug wants a victim to believe it is a real gun,.. then the thug shouldn't be to shocked when police shoot and kill him when they think it is a real gun..

the thug had a gun.. and deserved to be shot.. and if he died.. it is his own damn fault... ( even if the police knew it was a toy.. )
