Shaheed Whack

Police discovered a .38-caliber handgun in 18-year-old Shaheed Whack's bookbag when he went through the metal-detector at Fels High School's entrance on Langdon Street near Howell in Crescentville around 7:30 a.m., police said. When cops tried to apprehend him, he sprinted away, but officers caught him on Sanger Street near Langdon, about a block away.

No one was injured. Police recovered the firearm.

Whack is charged with violation of the Uniform Firearms Act, carrying a weapon on school property and related offenses.

"This incident demonstrates two things. One, there are too many guns out there that seem to be easily accessible to even students," Gallard said. "The other thing it demonstrates is that our security process is working, and our school police officers are making a difference out there and making sure these weapons don't get into our schools."

Gallard said investigators aren't yet sure of the student's intent.

seeing how getting a handgun permit in Philadelphia is near impossible..means that this gun was illegally obtained..

so another law wouldn't have stopped him.. but a police officer in the right place did..

Chances are, like so many of these stories, the gun was his father's or mother's and they passed the back ground check to get it. So what would a new law do in that case? NOTHING just like the rest of the Dems examples for a need for further gun control laws.

If somebody wants to kill another person they will find a way to do it be it their parent's back ground checked legal gun, an illegally obtained gun or a knife. People need to remember one thing the WORST TERRORIST ACT IN US HISTORY IE 911 had nothing to do with guns. Those planes were taken over by simple box cutters. And the most recent terrorist attack was two homemade BOMBS, So if the Dems think they are going to stop people from killing others they are completely delusional.

not sure why a parent would give awannabe gangbanger who just turned 18 a revolver in a city where it is against the law to carry in almost any situation..

by most accounts he was raised by a single parent his mother..

he is probably like any other inner city kid,.. not really a bad kid,.. and for the most part has never been in real trouble.. but is so immersed in the gang culture that they can't see how dangerous it really is.. and soon end up in jail..

Who is saying anything about them GIVING the gun to him? :?

Did Nancy Lanza give her twenty year old son Adam her legally obtained guns before he turned it on her while she was still in bed before he shot up the Sandy Hook School?

All the weapons Lanza was carrying were legally owned by his mother, Nancy, 52, who was discovered dead in her bed on the second-floor of the house she shared with her son with a gunshot wound to her forehead and a rifle on the floor nearby.
