Poll: 80% Oppose Public Health Care For Illegals
Friday, June 12, 2009 2:16 PM

By: David A. Patten

An overwhelming 80 percent of U.S. voters oppose proposals for government-backed health-care plans for illegal immigrants, according to a Rasmussen Reports poll released Friday.

That compares to only 11 percent who think providing illegal workers with a government health-care plan is a good idea.

The strong opposition to health-care coverage for illegals, based on a national poll of 1,000 likely voters, comes amidst ongoing negotiations over the proposed health-care reform package now working its way through Congress.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, over 10 million illegal immigrants in the United States lack health insurance. That's about 22 percent of the 46 million people in America who are without insurance.

American voters continue to strongly favor the idea that all Americans should have quality health-care coverage, however. Sixty-five percent say that every American should have access to quality health care. Only 22 percent disagree.

Support for providing health-care coverage for illegals is sharply divided along party lines. According to Rasmussen, nine out of 10 likely voters who describe themselves as conservative are against granting health-care coverage to illegals.

About half of those who identify themselves as liberal think providing health-care to undocumented workers is a good idea.

While I don't like the idea of paying for health care for illegals- its actually what we're doing now every time we pay our monthly health insurance bill or our doctor/hospital bill....And since they and other noninsureds have no insurance- usually they seek medical care only after it has progressed to a chronic condition-many times thru the emergency ward-which greatly increases the cost of treatment/care....Which we then pay for....

Its a catch 22 situation that can only be solved by having everyone in the country covered by some type of medical insurance.....
Or by having a massive roundup/deportation of all illegals- which we've seen isn't going to happen with either party in control...

So if you are already paying for it, then they should not be included in the numbers that are not insured, when it comes to estimating the additional costs.

How about the other 36M, do they get free medical care if they show up at a hospital? Have the health costs associated with their care already been budgeted for?

and why is that OT??
why are We the People forced to lose another Freedom, and forced to pay more because of a government that won't enforce the immigration laws it writes??
Why are we scared that OUR government will then enforce these new laws against us, it's legal citizens??
Is that a catch 22 also??
or is there something very very wrong within both parties??
Who is looking out for America??

And to finance all these social programs, creditors are counted on to continue financing them.

The US is not just disliked for the wars it's involved in, but also for borrowing money, that will never be paid back in full, to provide programs that the majority of the world are not entitled to.

OT, you seem to have a problem with energy dependence on foreign countries, but you are backslapping financial dependence.

and what law did they "pass"?

seems to me McCain/Bush got the message,... and dropped their amnesty bill

the only message Obama has is a mandate to do as he pleases... but then again we can blame those who voted for him when we are over-ran by the illegals.. oops,.. I mean citizens...

So what is your conclusion OT?

Why would you side with the "going concern"?

Maybe the answer is to have some true reform in Government, and get back to basics, and have them represent those they are working & being paid by.

Can't be done? Try to be a little more positive.

At least research your candidate, before you vote him/her.

facts:
The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2007, or, in its full name, the Secure Borders, Economic Opportunity and Immigration Reform Act of 2007 (S. 1348) was a bill discussed in the 110th United States Congress that would have provided legal status and a responsible path to citizenship for the approximately 12 million undocumented immigrants currently residing in the United States.

Conservatives rejected providing a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, as it would reward them for disregarding United States immigration laws.

another fact:
Democrats need 60 votes in the Senate, and Denton said without even a Republican sponsor, any reintroduction of S. 2611 is "dead on arrival."

I guess it was shot down by a "uprising ground swell of Repub Congressmen screaming about it."

if it ever does pass, I guess you can blame your self for electing all them liberals...
