Poll: Majority support troops, not Iraq war

Remarkable, isn't it? When I came on this board bashing the war, I was beat up as not "supporting the troops." Now more people agree with me than thee. Excerpt; link below.

“While the AP poll found that most Americans are willing to give U.S. troops the benefit of the doubt, their misgivings about the war and the prospect of Iraq establishing a stable, democratic government are growing.
Fifty-nine percent said the United States made a mistake in going to war, a new high and a significant jump from the 34 percent in December 2004.
“The biggest mistake was going into Iraq,” said David Smith, 38, a salesman from Springfield, Mo., and Democrat who leans independent. “If hindsight was 20-20, they should have thought about the repercussions.”
Despite President Bush’s pronouncements about Iraq setting up a viable government, only 44 percent of those polled said it was likely they would see a stable government in Baghdad. It was a new low in the survey.
“I think this is the first time in recorded history where the American people wholeheartedly support the troops and support for the mission is waning,” said Rep. Ike Skelton of Missouri, the top Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee.”

Well I got attacked also....BIG TIME for being against the war but supporting the troops. I was told I could not do both...hmmmmmmm.....

But I'm the one spending $100+ dollars per box, not counting postage each and every month.....for at least 2 boxes of 'goodies' going to the troops.

I've been told that my info from them is unreliable but that the info from a Gen or Col miles away given @ a news conference...now that the TRUTH!

I just gave up...I'll go and do my thing....and they ( the ones who bashed me) can do their thing!

What I dont want to happen is another Vietnam.
I suspect a lot of people on here are the same way.
On a forum you cant see who you are talking to and its really easy to take someone the wrong way or read things into posts that the other person did not mean.
Example When I read someones post saying the troops should be brought home I tend to get visions of some Hippi on LSD spitting on one of our soldiers and I tend to wonder about the intentions of the person who posts this kind of stuff.
Are they trying to be a modern Radio Hanoi?
History tells us that democracys tend to lose the will to fight in about 7 years. I think its very important for us to be united, to accept nothing less than total victory because if we are not, it will just drag on the war.
The enemy sees the west as weak, they are counting on the west to lose its will to fight.
There is nothing new about this.
Japan never expected an all out war with the west. They never intended on invading the west.
North Korea thought the west didnt care if they invaded the south.
Vietnam/Saddam its always the same story.
Well except for the Soviets/ They knew what would happen.
Look at how we allowed Hitler to break the treaties of WW1 and build up his army. Let him invade Poland and we never did a thing about it.
We still ended up going to war but it would have been easier if we would not have allowed Hitler to get so powerful in the first place.
Its important for us to be a united front and if anything we should be stepping up the tough talk and commitment to win the war at any cost.
