Yesterday when fly tagging I had one fly tag that didn't have the plastic lock on the back of the tag that the button goes through and one tag the cow jerked and I ripped her ear out and lost a button. I didn't have any buttons because I usually use ztags so I had a couple old z tags that I missmarked. I cut the bottom part of the z tag off and left the neck of the tag and the piercing back part. I then used that to pin the allflex type tag to the cows ear. Worked slick as a ...well worked slick as a button.

I tried to get a fly tag manufacturer to make tags that would glue on (like sale barn tags) so that they would fall off when they were used up and you could put the tags on cattle when they left a stock trailer.

They handed me a tag remover so I could cut the old tags off. Of course, we don't use fly tags anymore.
