The Pope agrees with GW, Obama, and most folks that evil people that hide behind religion and do evil in the name of God (Christian, Muslim, Jews, etc.) are not truly religious people...

But unlike the Polytheists of this site that believe in a different God for each different religion - the Pope- and the Catholic Church take the same stance GW and I do-- that there is but one God- and that we all worship that same God...

Pope Francis Believes Muslims Worship The One True God

Published on Mar 22, 2013

Pope Francis I delivered a speech on March 20, 2013, declaring his gratitude to Muslims who worship "the one God". He is not alone in his assertion that Chrisians and Muslims worship the one true God as Rick Warren is also a part of this error. The world is racing toward a one world religion where the supremacy of Jesus Christ will be cast aside.

Pope Francis: ‘I Believe in God, Not In A Catholic God’

Pope Francis has once again had a sly dig at the Roman Catholic Church, condemning its narcissistic “Vatican-centric view” of religion.

The new Pope, who was elected earlier this year after Pope Benedict’s resignation, has been praised for his comments since taking the position.

During a discussion with the atheist editor of La Repubblica, an Italian newspaper, Pope Francis once again made it clear that he is looking to reform the church.

The Pontiff commented, “This Vatican-centric view neglects the world around us. I don not share this view and I’ll do everything I can to change to it.”

He then went on to lay out his plan, stating, “The Church is or should go back to being a community of God’s people, and priests, pastors and bishops who have the care of souls, are at the service of the people of God.”

Pope Francis continued, “And I believe in God, not in a Catholic God, there is no Catholic God, there is God and I believe in Jesus Christ, his incarnation. Jesus is my teacher and my pastor, but God, the Father, Abba, is the light and the Creator. This is my Being. Do you think we are very far apart?”

Made me curious --So I did a little more research on this concept-- and see that it has been a long standing (50+ years ) recognized belief of the Catholic Church that there is but one God and that Allah the God of the Muslim religion is the same true God that Catholics worship... Same as I believe that God the Catholics , Christians, Jews, and Muslims worship is the God that I worship as a believer in the Biblical teachings about Abraham....

Is it the pope's private opinion that Muslims worship the same God?

Pope Benedict XVI has stated that Muslims worship the same God as Christians do. Is this just his private opinion?

Answer

No. The Second Vatican Council taught that Muslims worship the one true God:

The Church regards with esteem also the Muslims. They adore the one God, living and subsisting in himself; merciful and all-powerful, the Creator of heaven and earth, who has spoken to men; they take pains to submit wholeheartedly to even his inscrutable decrees, just as Abraham, with whom the faith of Islam takes pleasure in linking itself, submitted to God. (Nostra Aetate 3)
--------------------------
The word Allah is the Arabic equivalent to the English word God. The word Allah is used by Arabic-speaking Christians and Jews as well as Muslims. Although they have an incomplete understanding of the nature and revelation of God, Muslims worship the same God whom Christians and Jews worship.

Pope Benedict XVI on Nostra Aetate and Islam

For more than forty years, the teaching of the Second Vatican Council has inspired and guided the approach taken by the Holy See and by local churches throughout the world to relations with the followers of other religions. Following the biblical tradition, the Council teaches that the entire human race shares a common origin and a common destiny: God, our Creator and the goal of our earthly pilgrimage. Christians and Muslims belong to the family of those who believe in the one God and who, according to their respective traditions, trace their ancestry to Abraham. (cf. Second Vatican Council, Nostra Aetate 1, 3)
