The 19 yr old grandson of a good friend of ours committed suicide last week   Our friend is taking it extremely hard as I'm sure the rest of the family is. The funeral is today so please keep them in your prayers.

The grandparents are Kent and Bev, dad and stepmom are Lance and Kaydie

Kids today have a pretty tough go of it. A lot of times they really need someone just to talk to and identify with. These are real tough times for teenagers. I grew up in the 70s when the economy was booming. I purchased without much of a loan new pickups in 72, 75, 77
When I was a senior in high school I purchased cattle and went to the bank and got a $12,000 loan( which I paid off in 6 months) I would not ever think of doing anything like that today. I am cringing about going to the bank today and asking for a $12,000 loan.
Teenagers have a tough time just getting through school the pressures put on them to get super test scores, get jobs, pay for clothes insurance and used vehical payments is just out of site. This year one student worked a job after school for 5 hours per night to make ends meet to enjoy the lifestyle the others had. He is taking home 50 cents per hour. We have all heard the old timers tell us about the old days how tough they were when they made 50 cents per hour. This is 2008 not 1958 wake up people
Talk to the kids treat them they way you wish to be treated.

So sad! Will be praying for the whole family.

Just this week I bumped into a mom at the food store whose son died of an overdose a few years ago. And then two evenings ago we had another friend over whose son killed himself inadvertently in a plea for attention that went completely out of his control. Both sets of parents have adjusted to the losses and feel that, hard as this sounds, it could all have been much worse (the boys could have taken others out with themselves). What a waste though of life and potential, absolutely heart wrenching. A reminder that iff we see a child or adult that seems depressed, we should try to help and be insistent on getting them treatment. It won't always work but might be a life saver for some.

one of the saddest parts of a situation like that is looking back over the past few months and seeing the signs that you should have noticed the person was in trouble.as a friend who lost someone in this manner, I think it wears on you harder knowing you should have seen the signs, than the actual loss....kinda like you let it happen.... it really eats you up inside.

my prayers for the family.

Bless, O God of eternal life,
all who have died
by their own hand.
Grant them peace
from their inner turmoil
and the compassion of your love.
Comfort those who mourn
their loved ones.
Strengthen them to face the questions of pain,
the guilt and anger,
the irreparable loss.
Help us to reach out in love
to others who prefer death
to the choices of life
and to their families who grieve.
Amen.

Thanks for your prayers everyone...please keep them up. We've seen Kent twice last week. Came to the neighbors last week when they were shipping (we always help...they are the ones who've 'adopted' us). It was his first day alone since it happened...he was still pretty shook up. Thought he could handle being alone and couldn't so came and spent the day with us. Lot's of hugs and tears, but he was smiling (and full) by the time he left. Then the other day he riding in the pickup with some elk hunters.

We are holding your friends (adoptive family) in our prayers, I cannot imagine how devistating this must be, losing siblings to natural causes is hard enough, but I cannot think of anything as difficult to come to terms with as a family suicide. Blessings to you all, Andy.
