We don't know what he done...if he done anything really. But the surgical sight was open and draining yucky stuff.....along with lots of swelling when I found him today. He was standing in a sandy hole that they roll in.....I'd seen him there earlier....but didn't think a whole lot of it, because all the horses were right there around him..grazing. I just thought he'd been there rolling as usual. Then a couple hours later I went back to the garden and had picked stuff....stood up and looked down that way....and he was still standing there. Only this time he was way low in the back end. So I got on the 4 wheeler and drove over there. His good hind leg was about 8 inches down in the sand...not stuck...but he'd been turning around and around.....not puttin any weight on the surgery leg. So I go get a halter and lead rope....and Mr Lilly.....go back and he'd laid down. So got him up.....and sent Mr Lilly for the trailer because he wouldn't put any weight at all on it...without quivverin and almost fallin down. Somehow managed to get him in the trailer.....and off to Dr Honnas' we went.
Tendon Sheath infection. Not good. He kept him there....texted me a lil while ago, and said the flush went well...but we will hafta wait and see how well he does. He's on a couple different antibiotics. All we can do is say our prayers and hope he comes thru this.

Tendon Sheath infection is not good... Hopefully you caught it early enough and the antibiotics will work....

One of the best horses I ever raised, my daughter sold to a neighbor for college money... He said it was the best he had rode- got a little wire cut- then tendon sheath infection- and even tho they IVed antibiotics into him for a week or so- ended up having to be put down ....

Hoping an praying you have better luck....

We've gotten some good news....it's lookin good doc says....he's walkin fine on it now....but still not outta the woods for a while yet. They are doin flushes every evenin....what he told me is...they turnicate (sp) the leg and flush with saline.....then they inject the antibiotics right into the area where it's needed instead of IV.
Still sayin prayers for lil ole TP....

Haymaker....after his surgery....45 days later...he'd been cleared for light riding...which was walkin and trottin. She had gotten back on...and was doin that 3 days a week maybe.....And he was fine as far as we could tell....as well as the vet. Nothin was out of the ordinary. He was fine the day before I found him lame.
Dr. Honnas said he'd NEVER EVER seen or dreamed that anything like that would or could show up after 8 plus weeks after surgery. He is "THE" leg vet in Texas...and he's seen a lot. It's nothin he done...or we done...that caused this. He said it's a freak deal for sure. I just hope and pray that we can get it under controll.....because I'd hate to hafta put him down over somethin so crazy. But we all know there comes a time when you just can't spend anymore money on one. But I sure hope it doesn't come to that. He's such a nice horse. And works for her so well.

Well hope he gets alright,if ole TP was mine, when you get a handle on the infection,I would turn him out to pasture for a year, regardless of what the vet or anyone else says.
good luck

I agree that turning horses out can sometimes create what we call miracles. I know it has happened to us, more than once. The vet said they were 'done' and we turned them out. Amazing what a 6 months
or a year can do. We had a horse dislocate his shoulder once, (OUCH!) and the vet thought we'd never be able to use him again. We turned him out, watched him graze always with that leg forward. Soon he was grazing normally and after a few months we got him in and started riding him. He was fine. I don't know about this tendon sheath infection Lilly is faced with, it might not be the same deal as the different things we had.
Sure tough anyway. Tendons are touchy for sure; and very hard to heal at best, without infection too.

We'll keep up the prayers on this end, JL.
Do you have to keep him stalled this time?
I think we need to pray for Mr. JL, too...big responsibility... :D

At this point....I'd say yes. And I think he'll stay stalled alot longer this time than he did before...just to be on the safe side. He ain't gonna like it....but that's just how it's gonna be for a while.

And yes.....Mr Lilly will definately need prayers too LOL to take care of TP....and I'm leavin him for 9 days with the garden. Okra is fixin to be makin big time.....told him he'd be makin pickled okra for me as well as...he best not let the peaches all fall off the tree...they are just beginnin to turn pink/peachy colored.

You probably already know this, but if you take a gallon size
bleach bottle
and tie it to the rafters in the barn and let it hang down where he
can play with it, it helps to keep them from getting so bored.
A ball is great too, but a bottle is cheaper!

Really? Maybe you need to lower it. I've seen horses bat that
thing all over the place. Sure kept them occupied...

well, so much for my idea...

Or maybe move it to a new spot. Maybe they are just used to it hangin in the same place. ??? Thought about gettin the apple flavored lick wheel thing too....they say it really keeps horses occupied that are stalled. But I'd rather he be eatin hay...than lickin a lil wheel....??

Where do you have it hanging? I've seen them towards the front
of the stall so they can play with it looking out. But I've never
stalled a horse for any length of time, it's just a friend of ours
had an indoor arena with stalls in the back where folks kept their
horses. That's where I saw the bottles and balls hanging.

At any rate, I'm really hoping and praying the best for lil ole' TP.
