Ya know, predators and terrorists really DO have a lot in common, don't they? LB

Bush 'Strategery': Here kitty, kitty ....

At my family's ranch, we have a problem with mountain lions coming down from the mountains into the areas where we graze our cattle. While the cattle are in danger, so are the humans who may encounter these very aggressive and deadly creatures.

I'm sure George W. Bush owning a ranch in Crawford, Texas, is well acquainted with an old trick used on the ranch to keep predators from harming innocents who roam the ranch. It is the "hang the deer in the fence" trick. Let me 'splain Lucy.

Back in the good old days, before the PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) nuts infringed on our freedoms, ranchers were active in the pursuit of killing the mountain lions – before the lions killed. My neighbor, let's call him Mack, who had a much larger herd than us, would hang a dead deer in the fence on the top of our properties where they met each other. The lions would generally catch the scent and come down to feast on this very convenient meal.

Unbeknownst to the lion, Mack was strategically positioned in his pickup with a 30-06 rifle complete with a high-powered scope. As the lion started to devour his lunch, Mack would squeeze the trigger and eliminate the threat of the lion to both of our ranches. The first time I observed this process, I was a bit horrified. It seemed so cruel, yet over many years I came to understand the wisdom behind this old ranch trick.

George Bush is using this time-tested strategy in the War on Terror. He has used Iraq as the "deer in the fence" to attract every radical Islamic terrorist to the fence we call Iraq. Now maybe the left would have been more satisfied if he had hung the deer in Indiana, but I, for one, am delighted he chose Iraq.

If you look at the all the attacks that occur daily in Iraq, they have a very eerie similarity. They are generally a car bomb, IED or a gang of thugs murdering innocent civilians – clearly the work of terrorists, not insurgents. Thus, daily, hundreds if not thousands of terrorists smell the deer in the fence and come to Iraq to feast on what appears to be easy prey.

The American media has assured the lion that the Iraqis are easy prey. However the terrorists learn rather quickly that despite the reports from the pacifist left, the American troops and now the Iraqi troops are not going down without a fight. In fact, if the troops were allowed to kill and remove the terrorists like Mack does the lions, this whole war would already be over. If they didn't have the New York Times and NBC looking for every minor mistake they make and splashing it all over the evening news, they could do what they do best as soldiers and eliminate the threat.

Our media wants a war that is fought with litigation in a courtroom. They would prefer for us to arrest all the bad guys and bring them to justice. This would be like asking Mack to capture the little puddy cat and release it back to its natural habitat to kill once again. Mack would have told you to go jump in the lake (or worse – trust me) and allow him to do his job as a rancher. I'm sure the troops would say the same.

I think there is brilliance to this method in the War on Terror that is keeping America safe. The terrorists are clearly focused on Iraq instead of New York. Clearly, they are convinced they have to win their jihad in Iraq at all costs as they are killing their own – Muslims – en masse on a daily basis. They blow up mosques of the very religion they claim to hold sacred. They have become so bloodthirsty that any human being will do, just as long as their violence makes the news.

I suppose their motivation is the hope that America will lose its nerve to see this conflict through and go home. At that point, the lion will come off the mountain, start to hunt and kill innocents in America.

While I hate what I see in Iraq on a daily basis, I see the necessity to fight the War on Terror. I see the absolute need for the free world's survival to eliminate the scourge of radical Islamic terrorists from the face of the earth. Therefore, I am grateful that Iraq has become a magnet for the terrorists. Now I can only hope the liberal media will allow our troops and leaders to do the job Mack had to do every year. It kept the cattle safe, my family safe and the ranch a wonderful place to enjoy the beauty of nature.

Every American deserves the same.
