Preg checked today

We pregged cows today ended up with 9 opens out of 153 cows

1 yearling heifer

5 2nd calvers

1 3rd calver

1 4th calver

and one cow that would be 12 this spring

not to bad I thought. One of them I had seen aborted a week ago and the yearling was kinda manly looking anyhow.

Not bad at all Denny. I have to ask though, how long is your calving period?

We had 4% open and 3.5% that fell outside a sixty day calving. We kept 7 of the younger late cows, they should catch up next year if we hold them in a pasture instead of turning them out on range.

60 days there were 7 that the vet figured would be tailenders.

The bulls were put out to begin March 3rd I did AI 30 cows from Feb 1st to the 24th calveing dates. The replacement heifers were time bred to begin on feb 28th.I may keep 4 of the 2nd calvers back and rebreed them but at the price bred cows are I may just get them fat and trade for a bred cow.

I see nothing wrong with those numbers at all. Perfect management might sort them as yearlings, but I'll sell an MT "heiferette" for that price any time. My take on your deal is you raise replacements, and as such, you cull your first calvers for "will they fit'.
I feel that is a very nice percentage of coming 3's open, with the balance of older cows showing efficient performance.
