President Obama quietly signs Pro-Union Executive Order

February 9, 2009

While everyone is talking about the pork laden stimulus that Obama and many Democrats in Congress are pushing, President Obama very quietly signed a pro union executive order on Friday. It ordered the use of union labor for federal construction projects. This is one of the most blatant payoffs I have ever seen.

Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele has made the following statement.

"President Obama's executive order will drive up the cost of government at a time when we should be doing everything possible to save taxpayer dollars. Federal contracts should go to the businesses that can offer taxpayers the best value - not just the unions who supported the Democrats' campaigns last year. Quietly signing executive orders to payback campaign backers undermines Obama promise to change Washington. It is a disappointment for Americans hoping for more transparency and less politics as usual in Washington."

It is nothing less than a payoff to the unions who supported his campaign with both money and troops. And the fact that it was done with no media coverage shows that he once again is trying to slip one by Americans, which is anything but transparent.

Obama and Biden Welcome Labor Unions Back to White House
Fri, 01/30/2009 - 12:30pm by CitizenSugar
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This morning President Obama signed three executive orders intended to "reverse many of the policies towards organized labor that we’ve seen these last eight years, policies with which I’ve sharply disagreed.” The president maintained that a strong labor union is key to America's economic recovery.

The orders make it harder for federal contractors to discourage union activity, require federal contractors to inform employees of their rights, and ensure that qualified workers already on the job keep their positions when contracts change hands.

While hosting labor leaders at the White House ceremony, Obama and Vice President Biden also discussed the first meeting held by the administrations special task force set up to discuss middle class issues, like healthcare and education. The middle class task force has its own website, where the public is invited to discuss the issues and government action.

Unflippingbelievable...... no wait, a Chicago polician.... it's believable.

Seen enough yet? Can we get did of this corrupt, lying bastard yet?

Vice President of the National Right to Work Foundation Stefan Gleason issued the following statement regarding the Executive Order:

"This executive order encouraging all federal agencies to adopt discriminatory, union-only project labor agreements is a shameless giveaway to Big Labor which spent over a billion dollars to get Obama and pro-forced-unionism Democrats elected last year.

"The order ensures that union bosses will collect a huge slice of federal spending in the form of forced union dues paid by workers on federal contracts. With nearly a trillion dollar "stimulus" spending planned, this action not only raises the costs shouldered by the American taxpayers, but it also discriminates against the 92.5 percent of private sector employees who have chosen not to unionize."

What a bunch of crap! These dispiccable Dems are confiscating everyones money, as well as stealing from their children and grandchildren, for this "stimulus" nonsense, and then just giving back to union workers!? Looks like they will be pretty well "stimulated".

White House Doors Finally Open to Federal Unions
By Joe Davidson
Tuesday, February 3, 2009;

After being shut out for eight years, the leaders of federal employee unions felt good to be among those invited into the fold by the new administration.

"Welcome back to the White House," Vice President Biden told a group of labor leaders who gathered in the East Room on Friday. They were there to meet with President Obama and Biden and to witness the signing of executive orders affecting federal contractors and the announcement of the formation of the Task Force on Middle Class Working Families.

After the meeting, the group moved to the Blue Room, where the boss-in-chief spoke with each union boss individually. That kind of thing simply did not happen under President George W. Bush.

"Never" is the way Colleen M. Kelley, 10-year president of the National Treasury Employees Union, put it. "I never, ever was invited to meet with the president, and I never did in eight years."

John Gage, president of the American Federation of Government Employees, said it was his first time in the White House, but he doesn't expect it to be the last.

"It's a pretty heady time for federal workers," he said. "It's certainly a coming out of the wilderness."

The meeting with the president represents a clean break with the Bush administration's attitude toward labor in general and federal employee unions in particular. Curiously, however, the White House would not provide the names of those who attended the meeting. "We do not have a list of the individuals that were in attendance at Friday's event for release," reads an e-mail from the White House. That doesn't seem consistent with the transparency this administration brags about.

But that's a detail that probably bothers reporters more than the chosen ones invited to share space with the president.

"We appreciate the dedication of this administration to reverse the anti-labor and anti-worker policies that have been in place the last eight years," Gage said. Lots of grizzled labor leaders said they hadn't heard the word "union" mentioned by a president so much since Franklin D. Roosevelt, he added.

Of course, with all the support that unions, including those Gage and Kelley lead, gave Obama during the presidential campaign, they would be in a major funk if he didn't return the favor. Yet, they don't expect the administration to say "how high" when the unions want it to jump.

"I think it will be a positive one," Kelley said of the relationship federal unions are developing with the White House. Obama "has made very clear his recognition of the important work federal employees do. . . . That doesn't mean we're going to agree on everything."

Although the White House would not say who was there, it did release a transcript of the signing ceremony. The transcript indicates that the labor leaders applauded Obama when he said: "We have to reverse many of the policies towards organized labor that we've seen these last eight years, policies with which I've sharply disagreed. I do not view the labor movement as part of the problem; to me it's part of the solution."

Open and transparent

There are plenty of us businesses that have had government contracts in the past that are not Union. I do not hire illegals but why should I not have the right at contracts, why should a competitor and another American have a right that I do not have just because they have a union work force?

They say small businesses are the backbone of our economy, well small businesses are likely to be the ones with no unions.

Affirmative action for unions! I wonder if unions supported Obama in the election? politics as usual!

I'll bet there aren't many union workers in Iraq. With respect to your right to contracts, the same thing was asked when Halliburton was hired for the Iraqi rebuilding process. Time about fair play, I guess.
Which brings up another point, why would Bush sign a piece of legislation that wouldn't allow for competitive bids on drugs for use in the Medicare program. I believe you answered something to this effect Aplus-there was probably a lot of good in that bill also. Well maybe thats the case here.
