Presision carrier of CCS

As an angus seedstock breeder I checked this site to see what people were saying about GAR Presision 1680 and to be honest was a bit shocked it wasn't being discussed. 1680 is a carrier of the curly calf syndrome, a lethal genetic defect. I would encourage everyone to check the Angus Assoc web site for more information. Then check your seedstock supplier.

I misspelled Precision I should know better than trying to do to many things at once. I don't know the name, what part of SD is he in? Do you have any 1680 blood? We have stayed away from it and also New Design, they are just to big for the area we are in.

Well, woops, I'm sorry. He lives in NORTH Dakota, but is right on the border line. Lives in Hettinger, ND as a matter of fact. Nope, I don't have any of that blood. Neither does my dad. We've got a lot of PCC and OCC genetics in our herd. The big names like GAR, Connealy, and others like them simply produce cattle that are too large in frame size and don't have the guts, fleshing ability, or efficiency to make it out here. Also, as an introduction, I'm a young AAA member. Got a notification in the mail about CCS and the AAA said if anyone had a calf that came out like that, they needed to have the vet inspect it right away.

There is some discussion of it on other forums on this site. Sounds like a tough deal for the people involved. Hope it gets solved and corrected soon, with as little damage as possible to the people who were probably trying to do things right, building good bloodlines for their industry.

We should have a DNA test for CCS by the end of the year. That should clear things up. I have a few with 1680 blood line, not direct but 2 or 3 generation down, but have had no trouble. However, they may well get culled even if they pass the DNA test. We will just have to wait and see what the market does to them.
