Poll: Public Solidly Behind Obama On Stimulus Plan

When it comes to handling the economy, specifically the economic stimulus bill, the American public seems to be firmly behind President Obama. Numbers from a new Gallup poll showed that 67 percent of those questioned supported President Obama on the stimulus, while 31 percent favored Congressional Republican efforts.

The poll also found that when it comes to economic improvement and managing the federal government over 50 percent of those surveyed said they have more confidence in President Obama's ability. And, numbers showed that over 51 percent of those surveyed said passage of the economic stimulus was, "critically important."

Gallup's poll comes at a crucial time for President Obama, as he prepares for his first prime-time press conference and speeches in Indiana and in Fort Myers, both cities have been especially hard hit by the deep recession gripping the United States.

Obama will make his push Monday in order to put pressure on Congressional Republicans to pass the stimulus bill, and on Tuesday, his Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner will reveal plans for another bailout of financial institutions. Combined, both plans are expected to cost over $1.5 trillion

IF this is true, it just goes to show that the public can be as stupid as you are.

CNN has run a campaign all weekend to try and get people swayed over to the Demcratic Stimulus plan by using the words..catastrophic, and such.

They are playing the same game as they did during the election.

Funny part is.......the recession is gonna get better whether the Stimulus gets passed or not. When it does Obama will take credit either way.

But we'll still be left with the debt......................

They tried hard last week to pass it just because Geithner is going to make a proposal to bail the banks out again, borrowing even more money.

Why don't they do it all in one Bill?

"It's a recession when your neighbor loses his job. It's a depression when you lose your own." — President Truman

From several of the people I've talked to the last few days- as the economic impacts hit wider areas- more and more folks are thinking Bush got us into a Depression- because they no longer have jobs- or any real indications/hopes of finding any...

Yes, the really stupid ones I talk to think that Bush got us in this recession also.

But when I talk to normal thinking and more worldly people.... they blame it on society as a whole because of the "Buy Now.....Pay Later" attitude of living for the past 50 years.

Even if Bush got US into a depression how is a train load of condoms or buying 635 million worth of chinese converter boxes going to help US out?

While the US is screwing ourselves (weith cheap 20 cent condoms on) watching digital TV and getting a bigger foodstamp check, the chinese are laughing all the way to Fort Knox..

Kind of Deja Vu- all over again...History repeats itself...Then it was Hoover- this time Bush- both asleep at the wheel- refusing to even admit there was a problem, let alone do any actions to reverse the course because it might interfer with their Fatcat Buddies profiteering-- until it was too late...

But thats right- Repubs of the current breed, no longer take or accept any responsibilty for anything negative that happens... :(

Back then it was Hoovervilles- they're already calling those made homeless by this financial fiasco Bushvilles.....

What the poll said was
67 percent of Americans approve of the way he has managed efforts to pass the giant bill.
But to say 67% support him on the bill when this came out days ago is a bit of a stretch :?

Support for Stimulus Package Falls to 37%
Wednesday, February 04, 2009
Support for the economic recovery plan working its way through Congress has fallen again this week. For the first time, a plurality of voters nationwide oppose the $800-billion-plus plan.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 37% favor the legislation, 43% are opposed, and 20% are not sure.

Two weeks ago, 45% supported the plan. Last week, 42% supported it.

Opposition has grown from 34% two weeks ago to 39% last week and 43% today.

Sixty-four percent (64%) of Democrats still support the plan. That figure is down from 74% a week ago. Just 13% of Republicans and 27% of those not affiliated with either major party agree.

Seventy-two percent (72%) of Republicans oppose the plan along with 50% of unaffiliated voters and 16% of Democrats.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Two new national polls suggest that support for an $800 billion stimulus plan to pump up the economy has slipped since mid-January, but may have stabilized in the past week.

Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Oklahoma, works with his aides on the economic stimulus package. Polls show support for the bill is slipping.

Fifty-one percent of those questioned in a CBS News poll released Thursday evening approved of the stimulus package. That's down 12 points from a poll taken January 11-15, the last time CBS asked the question. Thirty-nine percent opposed the plan, up 15 points from the previous poll, taken before President Barack Obama was inaugurated and before the House of Representatives passed an $819 billion stimulus package, with no Republican support, on January 28.

Does it really matter what the "people" think? The Democrats are bound and determined to pass it, without public consensus!

It is what they deem to be "best" for us!

The Senate plan they're currently working on is a "bipartisan plan" drawn up by members of both parties....
I don't like some of the pork in the bill- some put in by both parties- but the alternative- doing nothing- could be disastrous....

I googled Gallop it's latest poll on it's website was from the 5th and set at 52% support...

maybe a link to the poll you used would be helpful as It appears to be dated results..

I'll have to throw the BS flag here too.

Does OT really think it's "Bipartisan"? I certainly hope not.

And doing the wrong things, too quickly, may be worse than disastrous!

If Congress/Senate had followed Obama's idea of Bipartisan, they would have all just had a few cocktails, and a superbowl party, and none of this would have been debated!

notice the wording..

Numbers from a new Gallup poll showed that 67 percent of those questioned supported President Obama on the stimulus, while 31 percent favored Congressional Republican efforts.

and the original statement from Gallop...
Along party lines, Democrats expressed broadest support for the overall plan (67 percent),

and well...
The Gallup poll was conducted by telephone Jan. 6-7 among a random national sample of 972 adults.

and that only took a few minutes to find ...

heres another link... as well
