well not really.. he just had his thugs take one over and shut the other down..

The self-proclaimed prime minister of Crimea, Sergei Aksenov, today (6 March) shut down a Ukrainian TV channel and allowed the frequency to be taken by a Russian TV channel, Rossiya.

"Armed men have seized the Simferopol Radio and Television Transmitting Station, turning off Channel 5 and 1+1 and turning on Rossiya 24

By shutting off contact with with the Ukrainian media, Russian propaganda efforts will have less competition.

According to a press release emailed to me by the broadcaster 1+1, the channel's chief engineer was officially told that the broadcasting of 1+1 within the territory of Crimea has been terminated.

The press release states: "These actions and orders of those who call themselves the new leadership of the Crimean autonomous republic show how highly they disrespect freedom of expression and democratic values, as well as abuse the rule of law and intellectual property rights."

It points out that yesterday an armed group would not allow 1+1's journalists to enter the Crimea peninsula. A news crew was detained and threatened with becoming human shields in case of attack from outside. After what were called "intense negotiations" they were later released.

The press release also refers to several attacks on reporting staff working for 1+1's programme, Television Service of news (TSN), in recent days.

yep can't have those dissenting voices out there showing all the propaganda lies the Russians are telling..

NEW YORK -- One of the first casualties in the Russian invasion of Crimea was independent television.

Black Sea TV, the peninsula's only independent channel, was shut down on Monday. The crackdown on independent media is a hallmark of Kremlin-style manipulation. Such press tightening began early on during the presidency of Vladimir Putin and has continued.

Russia’s state-controlled media has undergone a shift in recent months toward increased centralization and control.

Dimitry Kiselev, a television host who is infamous for saying gays' hearts should be burned, was appointed by Putin in December to head Russia Today, a domestic media organization separate from RT, the English-language channel that broadcasts the Russian point of view to foreign audiences.

On Sunday, Kiselev said Russia needed to defend its “interests” in Russian-speaking Ukraine and that it was "impossible not to respond to this challenge,” according to the BBC.

I guess since it was impossible to respond honestly the next best way was to just shut them off and take over their channel and broadcast only the Russian point of view?

at this point is is amazing that everybody doesn't see right through this Russian charade .   :? :???:

Russian media also claimed to be showing people fleeing Ukraine for Russia, when in fact the footage showed an ordinary day at a Polish-Ukrainian border crossing. Russian state agency ITAR-TASS quoted the border service as saying there were signs of a "humanitarian catastrophe." A Daily Beast article on Monday described Russian state-controlled media as having gone "into full fabrication mode."

full fabrication mode.. sounds like the cold war never ended..
