Al-Qaeda's north African branch has acquired a stockpile of weapons in Libya, including surface-to-air missiles that are threatening air travel, the EU's counter-terrorism coordinator said Monday.

Due to the turmoil in Libya, members of Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb have "gained access to weapons, either small arms or machine-guns, or certain surface-to-air missiles which are extremely dangerous because they pose a risk to flights over the territory," said Gilles de Kerchove.

At a news conference marking the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks in the United States, de Kerchove said that while the threat of strikes by mainstream Al-Qaeda followers had decreased, AQIM was taking root both on the Arab peninsula and in Africa, posing a mounting threat.

"It is a group that is Africanising and seeking to extend its area of influence," he said.

It can never work out good to give a group who is "Africanising" a bunch of weapons. But that's just the racist in me talking.

Remember the Hutus & the Tutsis killing millions of each other with machetes a few years back?

and remember the Africanized bees? Another racist plot, no doubt. The non-unionized Tea Party members were the ones that bred those bees.

I think it was a scientist and a tree-hugging bee keeper who africanized the killer bees.. in South America...

Misconceptions

The sting of the Africanized Honey Bee is no more potent than a garden variety honey bee, and they have a similar appearance. What makes Africanized bees more dangerous is that they are more easily provoked, quick to swarm, attack in greater numbers, and pursue their victims for greater distances. An Africanized bee colony can remain agitated longer and may attack up to a quarter of a mile away from the hive.

sounds like a cross between Rev. Jackson and a flash mob.. :?

as for Libya.. only an idiot would give rebels guns.. let alone Surface to Air missiles..

African bee experiments gone wrong.. Libyans with weapons..

both really stupid ideas.. anyone with a bit of common sense would have seen this..

Evidence that the terrorists’ new found love for freedom and democracy is indeed “just for show,” and a camouflage for aggressive plans to turn Libya into an Islamist state, can be seen in their treatment of Libya’s large black population.

As we reported last week, migrant black workers have been subjected to abuse, torture, mass round-ups and executions at the hands of Libya’s new liberators.

Amnesty International workers witnessed the bodies of blacks being dumped by rebels after they were killed at makeshift hospital facility that bore the symbol of the Islamic Crescent.

Incarcerating thousands of blacks in prison camps can hardly be judged the work of freedom fighters, as the BBC, the NY Times and others have attempted to characterize Belhadj’s LIFG.

However, just as the press could be relied upon to recast NATO’s aggressive bombardment of Libya as a humanitarian peace mission, they can also be trusted when it comes to portraying western-backed racist, bloodthirsty rebels as righteous bringers of peace, joy and happiness.
