Question for Oldtimer

Soapweed

Well-known member
I have a friend who is a school teacher. Thirty years ago he had a good conservative attitude on politics and life in general. Being a teacher, and being a member of a teachers union through the years, he has been indoctinated and is now quite liberal in this thinking. At a Fourth of July get-together last summer, he and I had a friendly but poignant discussion on the merits, or lack thereof, of Barack Obama. After the dissertation, he and his wife and Peach and I were walking through Fort Robinson being typical tourists. His wife slipped up beside me, and whispered, "He can vote however he wants, but I am going to vote Republican."

Oldtimer, not too many years ago I considered you to have fairly good conservative values. You have fallen off the deep end and gone to pretty wacky liberal thinking. My question to you is, has your wife followed suit with you to the left side of the podium, or has she retained some old-fashioned conservatism?

Answer if you want to, or ignore it, but my mind does wonder.

Soap- Actually my wife started chewing on Bush before I did- and on me for convincing her to vote for the idiot...But she has a couple more years of college than I have- so catches on faster...

I don't think either of us are Liberal- but we are more Libertarian...We don't think the government should be sticking their noses in peoples bedrooms, nor telling someone who they can or cannot live their life with, nor telling us what religion or religious beliefs we should be following...We agree that decisions on a womans body, or your right to die with dignity, should be made by that person after consultation with their Doctor and their God- not some grey haired old men in D.C.

And with her job at the hospital- she like me (as Judge) have seen the suffering of so many people that lose everything they own- farms, ranches, business's, etc.- because of inability to obtain or insufficient health insurance....And we both believe the health care/health care insurance system needs major reform..This is one of the reasons we both supported Bush- because of his campaign promise to do so.. But like almost every other promise- he forgot it immediately after taking office and instead decided to spend our tax dollars building an Iraqi Health Care...

Also like me- she's been saddened by the way science, education, ethics and the rule of law took backseat during GW's term of "look the other way" government...In fact we were just talking the other day- with the Obama push on education/college- and with so many folks seeing the greed of the bankers/financiers/business CEO's (they all rank below used car salesmen anymore)- maybe again we'll see an emphasis on the younger generation going into the sciences- and setting their goals on developing a cure for cancer- or diabetes...I remember when I grew up- every kid wanted to be an astronaut like Alan Sheppard....

She has came on ranchers a few times as a lurker- mainly to look at some of the pictures-- but has also peaked into PB- and commented that she can't believe that the ranching industry or this site has so many radical, racist, women hating, homophobic, bigots- and thinks I'm nuts to keep even posting to them....

But like I told her- after 30 years in law enforcement- this just brings back old memories of all the whackos I was interrogating and dealing with....

Amen, brother, amen!

I only worked LE for 7 years, but some of these dudes remind me of the militia guy I pulled over who had constructed his own license plates out of cardboard. He didn't think Washington had the authority to require state-issued plates.

He had is very own pocket-sized copy of the Constitution and told me as a federal officer, I didn't have the proper jurisdiction to stop him.

Despite his superior legal knowledge, my federally issued handcuffs seemed to fit him just fine.

Some days I really miss that job!

Thank you for your answer, even if it wasn't the one I was hoping for. As for Bush breaking promises, get ready for your new buddy Obama to do much more of the same. Basically you are disgusted with Bush because he went too "liberal," and yet you think the answer for the nation's problems are to go even more liberal with the programs and spending of Obama. That is the part that is hard for me to comprehend.

I gave GW 5 years - until his pattern of throwing out the rule of law and usurping the Constitution became impossible to swallow anymore...Unless Obama does something drastically bad that way- I'll give him the same..

You have already swallowed Obama trashing the Constitution, appointing tax cheats to his cabinet, stopping trials that have already taken 8 years to get to court and denying the families of dead US military men justice and the fear mongering to get his stimulus package passed before anyone finds out what he is lying about not being in it. You are not just swallowing it you are DEFENDING him.

Do you defend his moving the oversite of the Census to the authority of his Chief of Staff? The Census is a non partisan part of government but he wants his Democrat Chief of Staff to have power over it. Why???
Some say it is because he wants not to actually count the people but estimate the populations in certain areas. Then he wants to take that data and use it to change the representation in the government giving some areas more reps and some will lose their reps. Which in turn will change the electorial college votes that elects the President. Want to guess what areas will probably loss their reps if a Democrat is put in Power of the Census. :?

How about his Health plan that he is sneeking though calling it Stimulus, that puts the Sec of HHS in charge of the care you will recieve if you happen to get sick. Yes Oldtimer the Department of Health will get to decide if you will get the life saving treatment you need and you might not get it if it cost to much in their mind.

Just how far down the road of no return will you follow Obama before you wake up.
 :x

I, for one, could never live with a Democratic voting woman.

My life partner must be smart enough to recognize a scam when she sees it............ as was the last Presidential Election.

She must be at least smart enough to cognizantly carry on a conversation with, and care enough about our way of life to debate current political events, which absolutely dictates our immediate and long term future.

No, living with a person who can only make two-three words sentences and never lends anything pertinent to the conversational subject is out of the question.

My thought was that even though Oldtimer has gone off the deep end, maybe his wife had the good sense not to do so. Read back to my original questioning post, I described how in my friend's case, he went liberal while his wife stayed conservative. I am proud of my friend's wife because she does have a mind of her own. She is even from Nebraska.

Roll you eyes if you want to, but you need to take a reading comprehension course. :!:

They're only good for one thing to some Kola- keeping them barefoot and pregnant- And thinking is not allowed  ...I haven't seen this for awhile- but in the last case, the jury ruled justifiable homicide when she finally stuck a 12" butcher knife the depth of his ribcage..

And if I have been wrong all theses years- and these folks on this site truly represent "conservative" values and "conservative" ranchers- I don't want to ever be considered conservative anymore...

You could not be in that club if you wanted to be. You simply do not have the thinking ability nor the balls.

Plus, you're too much of a liar.

It does make one wonder as to why we have so many here who claim and self describe themselves to be " patriotic"....."ride for the brand/cause"......generous...pious......learned people...and yet they each and every one seem to be practically orgasmic predicting the fall of the United States and it's economy.

Always pasting quips with row upon row of smiling emoticons.

It seems we have no need to fear terrorists or " evil doers" from across the waters....we have enough right here at Ranchers. Excitedly posting and pasting negative statements.

I'm glad that many of you see Obama as the " magician" that will fix your problems within 3 wks of coming into the Presidency.

But, what stuns me is that so many of you seem pizzed that the day he entered office he didn't send out a rescue check to YOU that very day.

It took your boys ( Reps) many years to steal and hide the evidence of the mess we've got now......and as good as Obama seems to be, he's only human and it will take time to clean up the shite left behind.

DISCLAIMER: Now I'm not perfect( as I'm not from Alabama)...and I'm sure some facts here may not be correct IN YOUR WORLD....and you will delight and prob break a nail while banging out a response to this statement.
