For the benefit of whom???

for the unionized person, of course.

why worry about the consumer?

And if the unionized person and the consumer are one and the same, especially if all workers across the US were unionized.

Cattlemen would technicaly be owners and management so unionizing wouldnt make much difference IMO.But if you unionize the actual labor force you couldnt find a peice of meat ,ley alone buy it.Unions are a very useful and powerful tool.I personally would like to see our top union organizers in China and India.

Try and organize a union in China and you will become an involuntary organ doner.

I'd like to ask a question as well, actually for anyone in favor of the death tax, since as it stands is poised to do incredible damage to agriculture and family businesses.

What exemption would you like to see, if any, and what tax rate do you think should be imposed? Any reasons?

I would like to see an exemption of $25 million on assets actively ran and managed by the heir.

for example.. a ranch ran by the children, whose main occupation is ranching.. is exempt to $25 million.

or a company ran by the children ,.. (brick and mortar)..

and any assets later sold are subject to normal capital gains.

$1 exemption for stock, mutual funds, annuities, insurance proceeds and trusts. (paper) anything over is subject to capital gains..

in other words.. no real tax on the first $25 million of brick, mortar and land holdings used by the family to earn a living..

I am a little tired of seeing businesses destroyed by the crippling death tax, with the assets often sold at a discount and the employees without a job.. just to pay the death tax.

oh and payment of the capital gains on assets not sold.. but over the exemption. ..it should be in the form of an IRS lien held at 1% interest for the first year and climbing to 15% over fifteen years..

it won't happen... but we can sure dream of a better way....

It will happen one day and will cost a lot of lives imo, ST. All money comes from somewhere-- its taken from one group and transferred to another it just depends on which group you are in, the rate of transfer, the amount, etc. Its very interesting to hear people call in on C-Span and talk about making $13/hr in the 80's and doing the same job now for $8/hr same job non union.

If we have a death and capital gains tax ther should be no exemptions for anyone including corps or trusts. That may be true Angus327 but for the true union men and women no sacrifice is too great. We will just send some more.
