Director Invited to Testify on Competition Issues
at Senate Ag Committee Hearing
Washington, D.C. – R-CALF USA Region VII Director Eric Nelson has been invited to testify on competition issues in the U.S. cattle industry on behalf of the organization April 18 during a Senate Agriculture Committee hearing titled “Economic Challenges and Opportunities Facing American Agricultural Producers Today,” regarding the 2007 Farm Bill.
“The Farm Bill should help U.S. cattle producers compete in honest and open markets and maintain their central role as the backbone of U.S. agriculture,” Nelson said. “In the 2002 Farm Bill, R-CALF USA laid the groundwork for marketplace competition issues to be addressed, and we’re hoping Congress will listen to their cattle-producer constituents and include a competition title in the 2007 Farm Bill.
“R-CALF USA believes the Farm Bill should ensure that antitrust and competition laws are effectively and vigorously enforced,” he continued. “On the issue of market coordination and unfair contracting practices, the Farm Bill should strengthen the Packer and Stockyards Act (PSA) to prohibit packer ownership, end captive supply, and guarantee a minimum open-market volume.”

I thought R-CALF had no credibility, nobody in Washington listened to them, etc.............
