Barack Obama chief Rahm Emanuel urged to resignArticle from: Font size: Decrease Increase Email article: Email Print article: Print December 15, 2008 12:01am
BARACK Obama's chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, was under pressure to resign last night after it was revealed he had been captured on wire taps discussing candidates for the US president-elect's Illinios Senate seat.

Mr Emanuel's presence at the heart of the scandal threatens to roil Mr Obama's administration as a Chicago prosecutor builds his corruption case against Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, The Australian reports.

The Chicago Tribune did not suggest any dealmaking in the conversations Mr Emanuel had before the election with the Blagojevich administration, and Mr Obama has strongly denied anyone on his team committed any wrongdoing.

Mr Blagojevich - accused of plotting to sell Mr Obama's Senate seat in return for financial and political favours - showed no sign of resigning yesterday, consulting a leading Chicago criminal lawyer.

He held a four-hour meeting with Ed Genson, who defended newspaper baron Conrad Black.

Did you folks notice Obama correcting himself when asked about what he knows; ""I had no contact with the governor or his office. And so we, I, was not aware of what ..."

That folks, was the first step in throwing Rahm under the bus as is his established custom when people are of no more use to him and who reflect poorly on him. What a flipping greasy snake....

Frank Rich has a biting column today

pointing out that snagging Rod Blagojevich is the second coup of prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald in the past five years. The other one, Scooter Libby, was far bigger. While Blagojevich is merely a small-time crook who used his office to try to make a buck, Libby was part of a deliberate conspiracy to sell a war to the American people on false pretenses and punish anyone who tried to reveal the truth. Rich then goes on to show that malfeasance by executives at Enron, Moody's, and Citibank is far worse than the Spiro-Agnew-class stuff Blagojevich did and will cost the taxpayers far more in the long run.

Typical partisan Democratic bullsht. At least conservative columnists have the decency to pretend to be appalled when one of their own gets caught. But not Frank Rich and his disgusting ilk. Frank Rich is a shameless political hack who doesn't have a clue. He thinks that anything that happens outside the cocoon of New York and Washington doesn't matter a lick, and even says so in his "biting" column.
He thinks Blagojevich is small time? The guy not only tried to sell a senate seat, he tried to shake down a children's hospital for Christ's sake!! Picture this: You have a sick child that needs treatment but can't get it because the governor hasn't released the $8 million dollars the legislature designated for that hospital. Then you find out he hasn't released it because he hasn't received the $50,000 campaign contribution he demanded. Would you think it was small time, barely even worthy of the great Frank Rich's attention?
Blagojevich is a crook and a liar who doesn't give a rip about anyone but himself and sure as hell doesn't deserve to hold public office. Why can't some a-holes just come out and say it? Because he happens to be a Democrat? Nooooooo. They've got to bring up Bush, or Libby, or Ken Lay, as if that makes Blagojevich less of a crook and liar. Jesus!! These people need to quit acting like a bunch of finger pointing school kids on a playground and grow up!!

Oldtimer you are just plain disgusting. :x
Blagojevich is a crook. No matter how many articles you cut and paste about other crooks it can not change the fact this guy is selling a Senate seat to the highest bidder.

Ohama is trying to convince everyone he knew nothing about it. PLEASE take the blinders off and think about it. There is no way he or someone from his team under his orders wasn't in contact with the man in charge of replacing him. Obama has lied to hide so much now that he just can't help himself anymore.

I know how miss spelled words bother some people so sorry I corrected mine

I think the article puts the whole thing in "perspective"-- and you all are naive children if you believe this is the first Senate, Congressional, or political appointment (of both parties) that has been "sold to the highest bidder"....
Its just most aren't as dumb and blatently open as the Illinois Gov was..

And Tam- I'm not going to make any judgements on anybody else until I know more of the facts of what happened...
I'm still waiting to see who was the undisclosed person that squealed on him- and wore the body wire for the government to gain evidence :???: Almost has to be a key Dem- that was in a position to deal :???:

I fear this is only the tip of the iceberg as far as corruption goes under the new administration. All you libs wanted "change" and I sure think you are going to get it. Sadly we ALL are.

Obama didn't know that Wright was preaching hate, either. In 20 years of listening to the man, he never heard anything controversial.

Obama thought Ayers was "rehabilitated", too. He had no idea that Ayers still had the same views and would of done the same acts of terrorism again.

This flipping lying snake hasn't even been inaugurated yet and slime is already floating to the top.

Change my arse.......

Not poo-poing anything...I'm probably happier than any when a crook--especially a crooked politician gets caught... Remember from day one- of the reasons I told you I couldn't support McCain was his Keating 5 selling of political influence involvement and his involvement with using his political influence in the handling and cover up of his wifes criminal acts.....

But like I said- if you think this is the first political appointment thats been awarded because of promises of "scratch my back rewards" in return-- you are very naive and don't know whats happening in the real world....
Just like Mahoney-Pursley Ranch says- I think this is just the "tip of the iceberg"--but not with this administration so much as all of D.C. and the entire policy which prevails in US politics and their involvement with the corporate world....

McCain was cleared of any wrongdoing in Keating.

I'm not naive about the crap that goes on in politics. Was this the first Senate seat sold? Who knows, but it's certainly the first that the law got a sniff of. I don't understand how you can claim to hate political corruption, but then post an article that is, in effect, saying what Blago did is no big deal; "merely a small-time crook". Rich makes it sounds like Blago was just stealing cigarettes. I wouldn't think you would post an article that you didn't agree with.

If you want to talk naive, I'd say that saying Obama is guiltless in this whole deal would be naive. The Illinois Democrat machine is a synomym for corruption, and Obama comes from the middle of it. There's no way in hell that he got the offices he had without playing ball. He's a product and a part of the corrupt system. He'll play stupid like he has every time his associates have been exposed, and stupid Liberals will believe him. However, Obama knows damn well what Blago was doing, and you can bet your last dollar that he was giving input. He's in it.

The last stinky Senate seat appointment I remember came out of Alaska- when Senator Frank Murkowski ran for Governor- waited til he was sworn in as Governor to resign his Senate seat- then immediately appointed Lisa Murkowski- HIS DAUGHTER- to the Senate seat......Talk about Nepotism...

The next interesting one could be Hillary's seat....

This was established a couple of days ago. What's the matter, OT, you don't pay attention to scandals that involve Democrats? I'm afraid ignoring it won't make it go away, and neither will bringing up all the Republican scandals of the past. I'll bet if Blagojevich were a Republican you'd know all the sordid details, wouldn't you?

The Chicago Tribune reports today that the governor's former Congressional chief of staff, John Wyma, wore a wiretap to help federal investigators secure an indictment against him.

It may have been stinky, but it wasn't illegal. What Blagojevich did was. Besides, the people of Alaska had the final word when they elected none other than Sarah Palin to relpace him, bless her heart.

I think US citizens should also know whether Obama knew that his Kenyan cousin would use some of the million "Friends of Obama" US dollars, that Obama donated to his campaigne, to fund terrorist acts in that country like has been reported?

I hear it now Obama "I don't have a Kenyan cousin"? And Oldtimer "you heard him he has no family in Kenya that's good enough for me drop the issue."
