just like kids without something constructive to do has consequences - one day on a tractor summerfallowing has its consequences for me. i don't know if you can hear that or not but that is the sound of the now dieing, intermittent thistles that occupied my summerfallow appologizing to you with their last breath for encouraging this post. something about the lull of an old versatile, the dust, but mostly not a cow in sight that gets me off balance and brings out the baxter black or kenny overcast or something!

anyhow - some of this has been rattling around my head recently and every year with the first wiff of football the ergency seems to fade and i find myself calling it quits just a little bit earlier, finding excuses to be with the kids and cows more frequently, and reading this site more and more often.

You just can't help but learning about soapweeds family coming here - you just can't. there are others too, but none quite like the soapweed ranch. i think it was the recent roasting of soapweed coupled with the constant "wtf" instances with OT that spun this whole thought process... but mostly i think its an explanation of why i like to make fun of soapweed.

To me soapweed is proof of several things and i'll start with the one that i like the best and probably save the others for another time. Soapweed and crew is proof that the American dream is still alive. How do they do it? 4 generations all working side by side seamlessly and seemingly without a shred of stress like a well oiled machine. A Patriarch that is busting with pride with every appearance, a wife always in the thick of it with her head up high and a squint in her eye as if to say i've never questioned any of this for an instance. Children that seem eager to follow a tradition and pass it on to their own. I think that is an accomplishment in itself - to raise your kids in a way that doesn't want them to be as far as possible from you. Maybe Soapweed just never posts pictures of his other 3 kids instituionalized at warm springs that cuss his name with every breath... i don't know. So i say thanks for the inspiration and the proof to guys like me that there are still folks around that lead this way of life especially when it seems like there are more OTs and the likes in the world than the rest trying to convince everyone that some D politician is trying just as hard. You are proof that a way of life, tradition, the american dream is still possible. I used to wonder at what age does a guy have to quit worrying about sucking it in... thanks for showing me that if you are doing it right you don't have to.

If you want to argue R's and D's- and chastise me for voicing opposing opinions to the pack mentality- then its going to start a pissing match- and probably does better belong on PB...

Thanks, Hereford76. We just bumble along day-to-day, and try to keep the outfit together. Whatever doesn't get done today will likely still be available to do tomorrow. When troubles seem insurmountable, we just let the Good Lord take charge. His shoulders are a lot broader than ours. Anyway, thank you for the kind words.

I should obtain a big wide tight-fitting belt to wear under my shirt so I wouldn't even have to try to suck it in.

thats fine. it wasn't meant to be political.... just rancher's.net observation and reference plain and simple.

we do have one thing in common OT. i'm a hereford guy surrounded by a sea of black hided pack mentality and i stick to my guns too...

You must have said something about OT,that could be taken as derogatory. That seems to be when threads get moved....I wonder who moves them.

Soap's nickname should be changed to "salt", as in "salt of the Earth"

Herford76,
great post and thank you. I dont get on here much anymore as there's just other life going on that is making life full here.
I have met a very few people in person on ranchersnet and Soapweed is one that I truely admire. And not because he tries to keep his cattle black, its his character. On a funny note, maybe them black cattle have built that good character :) they say what dont kill ya makes ya stronger :) :)
Thanks for all the positive posts Soapweed, you among others keep the average higher on here.

God Bless you 76 for your high standards in Hereford Cattle.....

I enjoy Soaps picture diary....yet wonder why there is very few pics of him working....( I need to figure out his system!!)

I do find it a lot easier to over looks soaps black cattle than to over look OT's ignorant double standard.....

I keep telling all these single guys in my home town to look at this sight, if they want pretty, hard working women, Soap seems to be in the spot for that!!

What I find so admirable is no matter who is posting, soap has a kind word for them.
Yes, salt of the earth is a better name for the soap outfit.
Too bad some will never learn for a Godly man ...I for one have.
