All this talk about "real" change.....yet Obama came up through the traditional 'minority' ranks....work for ACORN, manipulate elections to get into IL Senate. Same to get into US Senate, taking us back in time to typical OLD STYLE CHICAGO DIRTY POLITICS!

We do not need the 'old is new again' Chicago style politics!!!!!

That kind of 'change' is behind the mess in the Fannie/Freddie M debacle!

How about that guy that pulled down millions in only six years on the job....isn't he an Obama financial advisor???

We need change from the conservative "we don't need oversight in government" line that got us into this mess. It's amazing to me to see how well things worked, FEMA, banking industry, DOJ, our military, schools, FAA, the list is long, under a Democratic White House. We had actual budget surpluses! And look what we've got now.

Look at the lobbyist surrounding John McCain. He has, what, 80-100 lobbyist working in his campaign? That's his base and they've earned millions of dollars lobbying McCain for their customers. Now he has them running his campaign! He has named Phil Gramm as probably his Sec of Treasury! Gramm, by anyone's estimation, is as responsible for this financial meltdown as any human being in this country. No, no, we don't need four more years of Bush's policies and McCain represents that.

You're right, fff, we need change. We've never had a lying, racist socialist with history of associating with shady people yet, have we? Yeah, that sounds like the change we need!

You are so funny! You blame Bush for everything when it fits, but then when Bill Clinton is the one that signed the legislation that Graham helped with that got bipartisan support in Congress then it is someone else's fault.

Either the Buck Stops at the President or not, which is it? When Clinton screws the country its a Congressman's fault when Congress screws the Country it is Bush's fault!

Exactly where does the buck stop for you?

Of course you can have a surplus when you do nothing but raise taxes as Clinton did while everything else went to hell. Oh I forgot...he did "set the table" for it to be raided by bears in 1999 and took full credit....If we do not need "oversight in government" then apparently you think gov't is fine. All the reps. and senators are as pure as new fallen snow.

Not everything went to hell under Clinton. The porn industry had its biggest boon in history. There is a PBS special about how well it blossomed under Bill.

You can blame Clinton for signing the bill but every Dem. voted against it except for one and every Rep. voted for it. They stayed true to form wanting to take care of their corporate buddies and now I don't believe you can convince the country the Rep's weren't at fault. Everyone
's mind is on that 800 billioon bailout and under whose watch it came. As Otimer says who was asleep at the wheel (probably purposely asleep) while all of this was going on??

Sorry, 3f's, but you confuse what you accuse this administration of: "we don't need oversight in government" with what they TRULY promoted, and which we desperately need: NO MORE OVER-REGULATION WHICH STRANGLES BUSINESSES!

There is plenty of government "oversight".....the problem is that Democrats have ignored it and used Freddie and Fannie as their war chest to build liberal voter blocs by giving certain populations things they did not earn.......when those in power over those entities had time to do that when they were not busy enriching themselves, individually!!!!!

TSR...actully three voted against it. TSR have you read the bill?? It actually had some very good things in it. Not all but a lot of it....Small "rural" banks were exempted from CRA. No forced lending to those who could not qualify.

We must have read a different bill. The one I read was voted on right along party lines with the exception of one Democrat who voted with the Republicans.

Little half truth there the original version passed along party lines in Senate 54-44 and then got bipartisan support of 343-86 in the house (I think there was more than 86 Democrats that year) but the Final bill after it was sent to conference committee passed with bipartisan support in both the Senate and house and was signed by Clinton.

The final bipartisan bill resolving the differences was passed in the Senate 90-8-1 and in the House: 362-57-15. This is the one that became law and was voted hands down with bipartisan support only 8 voting no in Senate and 57 in the house!

Spin all you want, but the facts are facts, the bill passed with bipartisan support and Bill Clinton signed it!

Where does the Buck Stop?

59% Would Vote to Replace Entire Congress
Sunday, October 05, 2008
Congress was front and center in the national news last week and the American people were far from impressed. If they could vote to keep or replace the entire Congress, 59% of voters would like to throw them all out and start over again. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that just 17% would vote to keep the current legislators in office.

Today, just 23% have even a little confidence in the ability of Congress to deal with the nation's economic problems and only 24% believe most Members of Congress understand legislation before they vote on it.

Paul Steinhauser writes for CNN: "Only 24 percent of those polled approve of President Bush's job performance, an all-time low for a CNN survey." The poll also found that only 26 percent of Americans are confident in Bush's ability to handle the financial crisis.
